USING THE TELEVISION

Follow these steps to operate your television.

1. Press POWER ON/OFF to ON.

2. Set VOLUME MIN/MAX to its lowest level.

3. Set TV/RADIO/TAPE FUNCTION to TV.

4. Set VHF Lo/Hi UHF to the desired band

For channels 2 through 6, set VHF Lo/Hi UHF to VHF Lo. For channels 7
through 13, set VHF Lo/Hi UHF to VHF Hi. For channels beyond 13, set
    VHF lo/Hi UHF TO UHF.

5. Rotate Tuning to select the desired station.

6. Adjust VOLUME MIN/MAX to a comfortable listening level.

7. Adjust BRIGHT and CONTRAST until you obtain the best picture.

Note: To stop vertical rolling of the TV picture, adjust V-HOLD.

8. Adjust the antenna to get the clearest image. See "Antennas", on
    Faxback Doc. # 31564.

TV Reception Tips

* Weak signal reception might cause snow (small white dots) to appear
on your TV picture. Too much distance between your TV and the station's
transmitter can cause weak reception. Buildings with large amounts of
steel construction can cause reception problems as well. Try changing
the position and length of the antenna. If this does not help, use an
outdoor antenna as described in "Antennas", on Faxback Doc. # 31564.

* Snow along with a tear or roll can often be due to improper tuning.

* If the image does not fill the screen at the sides, replace the
batteries. See "Using Battery Power", on Faxback Doc. # 31564.

USING THE RADIO

Follow these steps to operate your radio.

1. Press POWER ON/OFF to ON.

2. Set VOLUME MIN/MAX to its lowest setting.

3. Set TV/RADIO/TAPE FUNCTION to RADIO.

4. Set AM/FM to the desired band.

5. Rotate TUNING to select the desired station.

6. Adjust VOLUME MIN/MAX to a comfortable listening level.

7. Extend your system's antenna fully for improved FM reception.

Radio Reception Tips

* Weak FM reception is generally caused by problems similar to those
described in "TV Reception Tips." Use an outdoor antenna to improve
    your system's reception.

* Weak AM reception can be caused by the station's transmitter being too
far away, or by operating your system in a building with steel
construction. Turn your system in different directions to find the
best position for the built-in AM antenna.

USING THE CASSETTE DECK

Playing a Cassette

Before loading a cassette, take up any slack in the tape by turning the
tape hub with a pencil or your finger. (Avoid touching the tape.)

Caution: If you do not remove excess slack, the tape might become tangled
in the record/playback mechanism.

1. Press STOP/EJECT to open the cassette compartment door.

2. Load a cassette with the open end up and the side you want to play
    facing you.

3. Close the door.

        affect the recording level.

USING AN EARPHONE

For private listening, you can connect an optional earphone or headphones
with a 1/8-inch plug. Your local Radio Shack store sells a wide selection
of earphones and headphones to choose from.

NOTE: If you connect a pair of stereo headphones, you only hear sound from
       one side.

Insert the earphone/headphones' plug into the HEADPHONE jack. This
automatically disconnects the system's internal speaker.

Listening Safely

To protect your hearing, follow these guidelines when you use an earphone/
headphones.

Do not listen at extremely high volume levels. Extended high-volume
listening can lead to permanent hearing loss.

Set the volume to the lowest level possible before you begin listening.
Put on the earphone/headphones, then gradually increase the volume as
    necessary.

Once you set the volume, do not increase it. Over a period of time,
your ears adapt to the volume level, so a volume level that does not
cause discomfort might still damage your hearing.

Traffic Safety

Do not wear an earphone while operating a motor vehicle. Even though some
earphones are designed to let you hear some outside sounds when listening
at normal volume levels, they still present a traffic hazard and are
illegal in some areas.
