Model 36 (160-0706) Inputs and Outputs Faxback Doc. # 6526

CONTROLLING VCR INPUTS AND OUTPUTS

The CHANNEL switch on the VCR and the TV/VCR on both the VCR and remote,
the TV/CATV, INPUT SELECT, OUTPUT SELECT on the VCR, and SYSTEM buttons on
both the VCR and the remote control the input and output signals of the
VCR. The information in this section explains how to select the channels
you view and record.

SETTING THE CHANNEL SWITCH

Set the VCR's CHANNEL switch (on the back of the VCR) to channel 3 or 4,
whichever is not an active channel in your area.

When VCR appears on the display, the VCR sends the selected video source
from its RF OUT terminal to the TV.

The CHANNEL switch on the VCR has no effect on the TV when the VCR is off,
when VCR does not appear on the display, or if you are using a TV/monitor
(with audio/video input jacks) set to the TV mode.

USING THE TV/VCR BUTTON

The Model 36's 179-channel (68 VHF/UHF channels, 111 cable channels) tuner
is active when you turn it on.

Press TV/VCR so VCR appears on the display, and you can then use the
VCR's tuner to select the channels you record and/or view. To select a
channel with the TV's tuner, press TV/VCR so VCR does not show.

Whenever the VCR is on, the signals from the VCR are sent to the
AUDIO/VIDEO OUTPUT jacks of the VCR, regardless of how TV/VCR is set.

USING TV/CATV

If you connected an antenna input to your VCR's AERIAL terminal, press
TV/CATV on the VCR so CATV does not show.

If you connected a cable system input to your VCR's AERIAL terminal, press
TV/CATV on the VCR so CATV appears on the display to view or record a
cable channel using the VCR's tuner.

USING INPUT SELECT

To choose a signal to record, press INPUT SELECT on the VCR until the
desired indication appears in the display window; a channel number for
recording VHF/UHF signals: A channel number with SIMUL for FM simulcast
recording or LINE for recording the signal from the AUDIO/VIDEO INPUT
jacks on the rear or front of the VCR.

USING OUTPUT SELECT

The OUTPUT SELECT switch on the VCR controls the type of signal sent to
the Model 36's AUDIO/VIDEO OUTPUT jacks. Setting OUTPUT SELECT enables
you to view or record in either the NTSC or PAL color system.

For example, if you wanted to play an NTSC tape for viewing on a PAL
TV/monitor, you would set OUTPUT SELECT to PAL on the VCR. Or, if you
wanted to dub a PAL cassette to an NTSC VCR, you would connect the Model
36's AUDIO/VIDEO OUTPUT jacks to the recording VCR and set OUTPUT SELECT
on the VCR to NTSC.

When set to THRU on the VCR, signals pass unconverted through the VCR to
the TV/monitor.

Note: SECAM signals cannot be converted into either PAL or NTSC color
signals. Set the switch to NTSC on the VCR to receive SECAM
signals as black-and white NTSC signals.

USING SYSTEM

The SYSTEM button's function on either the VCR or the remote is to match
the Model 36's color system to an input source connected to its
AUDIO/VIDEO input jacks. For example, if you wanted to dub (copy) from a
PAL laser disc player to the Model 36, you would press SYSTEM until the
PAL indicator lights.

Each time you press SYSTEM, the PAL, NTSC3.58, or NTSC4.43 indicator
lights to show the color system selected.

Note: Except for NTSC4.43, the Model 36 automatically detects the color
system of the recording during normal tape playback. If you are
playing an NTSC tape on an NTSC4.43 TV and the picture has no color,
press SYSTEM until the NTSC4.43 indicator lights.
