Your Optimus Model 34 13" Color TV combines a versatile color TV/monitor
and a VCR in one space-saving cabinet.  The TV/VCR receives TV programs and
plays video tapes.  It also records onto video tapes from TV programs or an
audio/video source you connect it to.

Please read this owner's manual carefully.  It has been prepared to assist
you with initial setup procedures and to guide you in the TV/VCR's everyday
operation.


GENERAL

Automatic/Manual Clock Setting -- lets you set the TV/VCR to automatically
update its clock using EDS (Extended Data Service) signals broadcast by
certain stations.  You can also manually set the clock.

Note:  EDS is a service provided by some broadcasters to transmit various
types of information including the current time.  If no broadcasters in
your area transmit EDS signals, automatic clock setting will not work.

Station Display -- automatically displays station identification call
letters if a station transmits them.

Automatic DST (Daylight Saving Time) Adjustment -- lets you set the TV/VCR
to automatically adjust the time for Daylight Saving Time.

Remote Control -- lets you operate most of the tape-motion and TV controls
from a distance.

Note:  Your TV/VCR's remote control requires two AA batteries (not
included) for operation.

Front Audio/Video Input Jacks -- let you quickly connect an audio/video
device such as a camcorder or video game without disconnecting other
devices.

Earphone Jack -- lets you connect an earphone or headphones (not supplied)
with a 1/8-inch plug to the TV/VCR for private listening.

Last Channel Recall -- lets you quickly switch between broadcasts on two
different channels by pressing a single button.

On Timer with Wake-Up Alarm -- lets you set the TV/VCR to turn on at a 
specified time with an alarm that gradually gets louder as it sounds.

Sleep Timer -- lets you set the TV/VCR to play for the amount of time you
select, then automatically shut off.

Closed Captioning -- receives and displays closed caption signals for those
programs that broadcast them, and lets you receive other information from
TV stations.

Caption On Mute Feature -- lets you set the TV/VCR so it automatically
displays closed caption information when you mute the sound.

Trilingual On-Screen Menu -- displays instructions on the TV screen in
English, Spanish, or French.

Nite/Game Settings -- let you quickly set the TV/VCR to the best video
setting for viewing TV or a video tape at night or viewing video games.

Automatic Shut Off -- the TV/VCR automatically turns itself off if you do
not press any button for 5 minutes while the TV/VCR is not receiving a
broadcast signal or after it finishes playing a tape.

Built-In FM Radio -- lets you listen to FM radio broadcasts, and preset up
to 9 FM stations for easy recall.

Alert Tone -- alerts you whenever you enter invalid information or do an
incomplete operation.  You can turn the alert on or off.

VCR Lock -- lets you set the TV/VCR to help prevent young children from
operating it.


RECORDING/PLAYBACK

1-Month, 8-Event, Digital Timer -- lets you program the TV/VCR to make up
to eight unattended recordings (weekly, daily, or one-time).

Time Stamp -- displays useful recording information (such as date, start
time, and channel) for the first 5 seconds of playback.

Quick Timer Recording -- lets you immediately start a recording that stops
after the length of time you select.

Auto Tracking System -- automatically adjusts tracking when you start
playback.  You can also adjust the tracking manually.

Automatic Playback/Rewind/Eject -- automatically plays, rewinds, and ejects
the tape.

Auto Repeat -- lets you set the TV/VCR to automatically repeat a tape when,
during playback, it reaches the end or a blank spot on the tape.

One-Minute Skip -- lets you quickly skip over unwanted portions of a
recording, such as commercials.

Index Search -- lets you quickly locate the beginning of a specific
recording.  Also, you can have the TV/VCR play the first 10 seconds of each
recording so you can locate the one you want.

Program Index -- lets you select and search for a specific program after
timer recording.

Real-Time Counter with Zero Back -- lets you select and easily return to a
specific point on the tape.

Fast-Forward/Reverse with Visual Search

Freeze-Frame/Frame Advance/Slow-Motion


TUNING

179-Channel Capability, Digital PLL (Phase-Locked Loop) Tuner -- offers a
broad range of viewing choices and a clear, sharp picture.

Channel Caption -- lets you assign call letters to a channel so the call
letters appear on the screen with the channel number when you select a 
channel.

Tuner Memory Programming -- automatically stores all the active channels in
your area into memory.  You can also manually program the tuner's memory,
which makes it easy to add new channels when you move the TV/VCR to another
area, or delete channels you do not want.


We recommend you record the TV/VCR's serial number here.  The number is on
the back panel.
