(160-0600) Precautions Faxback Doc. # 41511
Location
For safe operation and satisfactory performance of your VCR, keep the
following in mind when selecting a place for its installation.
Shield it from direct sunlight and keep it away from sources of intense
heat.
Avoid dusty or humid places.
Avoid places with insufficient ventilation for proper heat dissipation.
Do not black the ventilation holes at the top and bottom of the VCR. Do
not place the unit on a carpet because this will block the ventilation
holes.
Install unit in a horizontal position.
Avoid locations subject to strong vibration.
Do not place the VCR near strong magnetic fields.
Do not move the unit from a cold to a hot place or vice versa.
Avoiding The Hazards Of Electrical Shock And Fire
Do not handle the power cord with wet hands.
Do not pull on the power cord when disconnecting it from an AC wall
outlet. Grasp it by the plug.
If, by accident, water is spilled on your VCR, unplug the power cord
immediately and take the unit to an authorized Radio Shack video service
center for servicing.
Do not put your fingers or objects into the VCR cassette door.
Do not place anything directly on top of the VCR.
Moisture Condensation/High Humidity and the DEW Circuit
The rotating head drum inside your VCR is the most delicate part of the
mechanism. If water particles even microscopic ones form on the head drum,
they will cause the tape to stick to the drum, resulting in jamming of, and
possible damage to, the mechanism. The water particles could come from
extremely high humidity or from condensation caused by moving the unit from
a cold area to a warm area.
For this reason the Model 20 has a moisture sensor/protection (DEW) circuit
that will temporarily disable the unit and illuminate the DEW indicator if
there is excessive moisture inside.
However, it is possible that, in some high-humidity areas, the VCR will
operate sporadically when first plugged in. The best safeguard against such
problems is to allow at least 1 - 2 hours warm-up the first time you plug
in the VCR and any time you move the VCR to a new location.
