after STOP has been pressed and the tape has disengaged the mechanism.
See Faxback Doc. # 41507 for detailed instructions.

effect on regular mode recordings; ALC is always activated.
23. Audio LEVEL Meters:
Use to observe the relative audio levels when recording or playing back
a Beta Hi-Fi tape. The meters are inactive during recording/playback in
the regular mode.
Because of the wide dynamic range of Beta Hi-Fi, the procedure for
setting recording levels is very important - see Faxback Doc. # 41506
for instructions.
24. TRACKING Control:
Adjust to minimize video "noise" (lines or dots on screen). Most often,
this is necessary when playing tapes recorded on other VCRs.
25. TAPE SPEED Selector Switch:
Use to select the desired recording speed. (See "B III Indicator")
B II = faster speed, best quality record/playback
B III = slower speed, longest recording times
NOTE: During playback the tape speed is automatically selected and
indicated.
26. RECORD Mode Selector (BETA Hi-Fi/AUDIO Hi-Fi/REGULAR):
BETA Hi-Fi - records Beta Hi-Fi audio during a video recording. A
regular audio track is also recorded in this mode, so the
tape will be compatible with regular Beta VCRs.
AUDIO Hi-Fi - records only Beta Hi-Fi audio; the video is blacked out.
REGULAR - records only a regular video track.
27. RECORD AUDIO INPUT Switch (OFF/ON/FM):
OFF - selects, for recording or viewing, the sound from the channel
selected by the Model 20 tuner. This position must be used when
recording or viewing broadcast or cable channels selected by the
Model 20 tuner.
ON - selects for recording, the source connected to the AUDIO IN jacks.
FM - use for best results when recording FM stereo broadcasts.
28. ALC Switch (ON/OFF):
OFF - Activates the RECORD LEVEL controls for manual adjustment of
recording levels during Beta Hi-Fi recording.
ON - activates the ALC (automatic level control) circuit for Beta Hi-Fi
recordings.
This switch has no effect on regular recordings; the ALC circuit is
always activated.
29. PLAY Switch (REGULAR, BETA/AUDIO Hi-Fi):
Selects the audio mode when playing back a Beta Hi-Fi audio/video or
audio only tape.
The regular mode will be selected automatically, regardless of the
switch setting, when a tape with only a regular audio track is played
back.
30. TIMER PROGRAMMING Buttons:
Use to set the clock and timer. POWER must be on when making these
settings. (See Faxback Doc. # 41509)
31. TIMER Switch:
Set to ON, after the start and stop times have been set, to activate
the timer function; the TIMER indicator will light. Set to OFF for
normal VCR operation.
NOTE: POWER cannot be turned on when the TIMER switch is ON.
32. REMOTE Switch:
Use to enable (ON) or disable (OFF) operation using the remote control
unit.
33. Tuning Compartment (See Faxback Doc. # 41503):
a. Channel Range Select - use to select the correct range for the
desired channel (VHF \/L, VHF \/H, or UHF).
b. Channel Range Selector Tool - use to set the channel range selector
to the desired position.
c. Tuning Thumb Wheel - use to find the desired station, within the
selected channel range.
d. Tuning Indicators - show the relative position of channels in each
channel range (H = high, L = low).
e. AFT Peg - when set to ON, turns the AFT circuit on when the turning
compartment door is closed. A very weak signal might be
received better with the AFT circuit off. In this case,
set the PEG to OFF.
The AFT circuit will always be off, as it should be, when
the door is open (for re-programming the tuner, etc.).
34. Channel Number Access Door. (See Faxback Doc. # 41503)
35. VHF Antenna OUT Connector:
Connect to the VHF terminals on your TV, using 75 Ohm coaxial cable
(use a 75-to-300 Ohm transformer, if necessary).
36. VHF Antenna IN Connector:
Connect a VHF antenna here; use 75 Ohm coaxial cable or 300 ohm flat
lead with a 300-to-75 ohm transformer.
37. UNSWITCHED AC Outlet:
Use to power other equipment that requires up to 500 watts of electri-
city. This outlet is "live" whenever the VCR is plugged in, regardless
of the VCR control setting (POWER, TIMER, etc.).
38. CHANNEL Selector:
Use to select the channel (3 or 4) for playback from your Model 20 or
for viewing/recording with the TV/VCR switch in the VCR position.
This switch has no effect when the TV/VCR switch is in the TV position.

another VCR; use shielded video cables with RCA-type connectors.
NOTE: When connection is made to these jacks, signals from VHF/UHF/
cable source cannot be recorded or viewed using the VCR tuner.
44. VIDEO OUT jacks:
Connect to the video in jack of a video processor, video color proces-
sor, TV monitor or another VCR; use shielded video cables with RCA-type
connectors.
45. REMOTE PAUSE (Camera) Jack:
