5" Color TV
(160-0106) Connections Faxback Doc. # 40818

The built-in telescoping antenna is intended for portable use or for use
in strong signal areas. To use this antenna, set the ROD ANT/EXT ANT
switch to ROD ANT. Then extend the antenna fully and swivel it for best
reception. See "Operation," Faxback Doc. # 40740.

For the best reception in any area, we recommend a high-quality VHF/UHF
antenna, such as Radio Shack's VU-190. Set the ROD ANT/EXT ANT switch to
EXT ANT, when using an external antenna.

Your PORTAVISION TV/Monitor has 75 and 300 ohm terminals for VHF. If you
use the 75 ohm connector, gently pull out on the jumper pin, turn it to
the side, and insert it into the pin storage hole.

    Note:
Set the TV/MON button to TV, for antenna/cable TV viewing.

The above drawing uses 75 ohm coaxial cable between the antenna and TV.
If you uses 300 ohm flat lead, replace the 15-1252 splitter with a
15-1251.

Cable TV

For cable TV, connect the cable from the CATV box to the 75 ohm connector
on the back of the PORTAVISION TV/Monitor.

MONITOR CONNECTIONS VCR Record and Playback

For monitor use, you have separate audio and video jacks on the back of
your PORTAVISION TV/Monitor. Connect these jacks to the audio and video
jacks on your VCR, and other audio/video equipment.

With the two parts of the TV signal separated, you may use one or more of
the may available audio/video processors, such as a video sound processor,
video enhancer/stabilizer, or video color processor.

These devices can greatly improve the quality of your viewing and
listening; some devices will also provide special effects for playback or
video tape editing.

The drawing below shows a typical monitor set-up. With these connections
you may play back the program from the VCR on the monitor (using the
optional audio/video processors, if you wish). You may also record the
programs coming from cable TV or an antenna, using the Portavision tuner
to select the program.

The signals from the Portavision tuner are available at the AUDIO/VIDEO
OUT jacks regardless of the setting of the TV/Monitor switch.

See the instruction manuals for your VCR and other audio/video equipment
for details on connections.

    Note:
Set the TV/MON button to MON, for monitor viewing.

    Notes:
Use shielded cable with RCA-type connectors for monitor
    viewing/recording.

Monitor signals are different from normal UHF/VHF signals. Do not
connect an antenna to the AUDIO/VIDEO jacks.

Direct Processing of Cable/Antenna TV viewing

Because the UHF/VHF/Cable signals connected to the PORTAVISION TV/Monitor
are present at the AUDIO/VIDEO OUT jacks regardless of the setting of the
TV/MON switch, you may use the connections below to process these signals
as you view them. No recording process is necessary.

The processors are connected in a loop between the AUDIO/VIDEO IN and OUT
jacks. Set the TV/MON switch to MON for this procedure.
