In most cases the built-in telescopic antenna will provide good reception
for FM and TV. However, for the very best reception and/or to tune in a
weak station, you should use an external antenna. Connect such an antenna
to VHF or UHF antenna terminals as appropriate, and set the Antenna switch
EXT. ANT. position. You'll find the following chart to be helpful as you
determine the best antenna to use.
Broadcast
Signal Reception in Weak Signal Areas.

Radio FM EXT. ANT. Connect FM outdoor ant. to
"VHF" terminals.

TV VHF EXT. ANT. Connect VHF outdoor ant. to
"VHF" terminals.
UHF EXT. ANT. Connect UHF outdoor ant. to
"UHF" terminals.
Reception in Normal Strength Signal Areas
Broadcast Signal ANT. Switch ROD ANT For Best Reception
Setting
Radio FM ROD ANT. Effective Extend the rod ant. fully
and swivel for best
reception.
AM Either Not Effective Turn the set for best
reception (built-in
ferrite ant).
TV VHF ROD ANT. Effective Extend the rod ant. fully

UHF ROD ANT. Effective Extend the rod ant. fully
and swivel for best

NOTES:
1. With VHF reception, use the full length of the rod antenna for
best reception on channels 2 to 6; shorten the antenna for
channels 7 to 13.
2. When connecting an outdoor VHF antenna to the VHF external
terminals, do not connect an additional outdoor FM antenna at the
same time (the FM antenna may interfere with TV reception).
Usually, an outdoor FM antenna is not required. Or, if you want
good FM reception, obtain a TV/FM antenna and connect it. Check
your local Radio Shack store for antennas suitable to your needs.
You'll also find various other useful accessories.
