5" Color TV
(160-0106) Power Sources Faxback Doc. # 40739

Your PORTAVISION TV/Monitor will operate from three different power
sources: standard 120V 60Hz AC current (with the supplied AC adapter),
10 D-cell batteries, or your vehicle battery (with an optional DC
Power Cord).

Standard AC Operation

Use the supplied AC adapter. Connect the small plug to the 12V DC jack on
the back of the unit; then plug the adapter's power cord into a standard
AC outlet.

    Note:

Connecting an adapter to the 12V DC jack automatically disconnects the
    internal batteries.

Battery Operation (Internal)

The battery compartment is located underneath the unit. Open the
compartment by pressing the two locking tabs in the direction of the
arrows. Then insert 10 D-cell batteries, positioning them according to
the drawing in the compartment.

    Note

Improper battery installation (+ and -) can damage your TV.

For best results, we recommend our 23-580 alkaline battery.

    Note:

Your PORTAVISION TV/Monitor will not operate from internal batteries
if a plug is connected to the DC 12V jack.

Average life for fresh, alkaline batteries is six and a half hours.
Using the earphone instead of the internal speaker uses less power and
    will increase battery life.

When the batteries become weak, the picture will begin to shrink.
If this happens, replace ALL the batteries.

    CAUTION:

Never leave dead or weak batteries in this unit (or any other device).
Even "leak-proof" batteries can leak damaging chemicals. Also, if you
do not plan to operate the unit for a week or more, remove the
batteries. Never store the unit with batteries inside.

Car Battery Operation

Using a DC power cord (Cat. No. 273-1534A), you can plug the PORTAVISION
TV/Monitor into your vehicle's cigarette lighter (if it has a 12-volt,
negative-ground system).

Connect one end of the power cord to the DC 12V jack on the rear of the
unit; then plug the other end into the cigarette lighter.

    CAUTION:

To prevent electrical shock and possible damage to your TV or vehicle,
always unplug the power cord from the cigarette lighter BEFORE you
remove the plug from the DC 12V jack.

    Note:

The AC adapter can be detached when you operate your unit on DC
(either internal batteries or car battery). Press the demounting
lever on the top of the adapter in the direction of the arrow; then
pull up and out to remove the adapter.
