Model 55 4-Head Stereo Hi-Fi VCR
(160-0625) Care and Maintenance Faxback Doc. # 39467

Your Optimus Model 55 VHS VCR is an example of superior design and
craftsmanship. The following suggestions will help care for the VCR
so you can enjoy it for years.

Keep the VCR dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Liquids
can contain minerals that corrode the electronic circuits.

Handle the VCR gently and carefully. Dropping it can damage its
circuit boards and case and can cause it to work improperly.

Use and store the VCR only in normal temperature environments.
Temperature extremes can shorten the life of electronic devices,
and distort or melt plastic parts.

Keep the VCR away from dust and dirt, which can cause premature
  wear of parts.

Modifying or tampering with your VCR's internal components can cause
a malfunction and might invalidate the VCR's warranty and void FCC
authorization to operate it. If your VCR is not operating properly,
take it to your local Radio Shack store for assistance.

Maintenance

Storing Your Video Cassettes

Unless you are making an automatic timer recording, eject and store the
cassette before you turn off the VCR. This helps protect the cassette
and the VCR's internal mechanisms from dust.

Place your video cassettes in their protective boxes and store them
in a cool, dry, dust-free environment. Store the cassettes on end,
not on their sides. This prevents improper settling of the cassette's
spools.

NOTE: Tape can become wound too tightly around the cassette's spools
after numerous playings. This can cause the cassette to improperly
load and automatically ejects when you insert it. On most
cassettes there is a brake-release plunger on the bottom center
of the cassette. Use the tip of a pen or pencil to press the
       plunger. This loosens the tape.

Erasure Protection

Video cassettes have an erase-protection tab to prevent accidental erasure
of a tape. If the erase-protection tab is removed, the VCR cannot
record on the tape.

If you want to record on a video cassette that does not have the tab,
put a piece of heavy plastic tape over the erase-protection tab hole.

Cleaning the Cabinet

Wipe the VCR's front panel and other exterior surfaces with a clean,
soft, dry cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong
detergents to clean the VCR.

Cleaning the Video Heads

Dirty video heads can cause the playback picture to blur even through
the audio signal is clear. Radio Shack carries a variety of kits for
cleaning VCR heads, capstans, pinch rollers and guides.

Clean the heads only when problems occur. If picture quality does not
improve after cleaning, there might be a serious problem requiring
service by a trained technician.

Servicing Your VCR

There are no user-serviceable parts inside your VCR. If you encounter
a problem that you cannot using this owner's manual and its
troubleshooting guide, take the VCR to your local Radio Shack for
assistance.
