Model 51 4-Head VHS Stereo Hi-Fi VCR
(160-0621) Dubbing Faxback Doc. # 39422

The process of recording from one VCR (playback VCR) to another (recording
VCR) is called dubbing.

You can use a camcorder, satellite receiver, or other device with A/V out-
puts in place of the playback VCR.

Always use video-quality shielded cables with RCA-type connectors. DO NOT
USE STANDARD AUDIO PATCH CORDS.

Connections For Dubbing (See Faxback Doc. # 39429.)

Connect the video and audio outputs of the playback VCR to the corresponding
VIDEO and AUDIO INPUT jacks on the Model 51.

If the playback VCR is mono, connect its audio output to the Model 51's L
AUDIO INPUT jack.

Dubbing A Video Cassette Tape

To dub a video cassette, do the following:

1. Insert the pre-recorded video cassette into the playback VCR.

2. Insert a blank video cassette, or one you want to record over, into the
    Model 51's cassette compartment.

3. Press INPUT on the Model 51 so that AU appears on the display.

4. Press TAPE SPEED on the remote control to display the desired recording
    speed (SP, LP or EP).

5. Press RECORD on the Model 51.

6. Begin playback of the tape in the playback VCR.

NOTE: For best results during dubbing, hold the Model 51's remote control
close to the Model 51's remote control receiver window (to the left
of the VCR display) when you press TAPE SPEED. Otherwise, the remote
control might affect the playback VCR's operation.

Monitoring Dubbing

Follow these steps to monitor dubbing.

1. Turn on the TV connected to the Model 51, and set it to the same channel
as the Model 51's CHANNEL 3/4 switch.

2. Press TV/VCR on the remote control so that VCR appears on the display,
or set your TV monitor to the video mode.

Recording Simulcasts

During a simulcast, the stereo sound for a TV program is broadcast on the
radio while the TV program is shown. Some cable companies use simulcasts
for stereo programs, but the radio signal is transmitted through the cable
wire instead of the air.

Use the following steps to record the stereo programs.

1. Connect your stereo receiver's tape-out jacks to your VCR's AUDIO INPUT
    jacks.

2. Turn on the TV, VCR, and stereo receiver.

3. Insert a blank tape, or one you want to record over, into the VCR's
    cassette compartment.

4. Press INPUT so that SC appears on the display.

5. Press TAPE SPEED to display the desired recording speed.

6. Tune the receiver to the proper radio station.

7. Use CHANNEL \/ or /\ or the remote control's number buttons to select
    the proper channel.

8. Record the program.

Audio-Only Recording

Because of the superior quality of the VHS hi-fi audio recordings, you
might want to use your VCR as an audio-only recorder. To do so, connect the
audio outputs of the desired audio source (a tape deck, for example) to the
VCR's AUDIO INPUT jacks.

You can also make live recordings by connecting a preamplifier or mixer to
the VCR's AUDIO INPUT jacks. However, do not directly connect a microphone
to the VCR.

NOTE: You must disconnect the VCR's VIDEO INPUT jack before you make an
       audio-only recording.
