Press CLOCK/COUNT/REMAIN on the remote control to change the VCR's display.
TV Monitor
To view a TV program from the VCR's tuner while a tape is playing, press
CLEAR/MONITOR during playback. Press it again to return to the tape play-
back picture.
Automatic Tracking Control
When a cassette is inserted and the VCR starts playback, the automatic
tracking control adjusts the picture. If you feel it needs more adjustment,
press AUTO TRACK during playback to adjust the picture again. AUTO TRK
flashes on the screen.
To manually adjust the picture tracking, press and hold TRACK - or + on the
remote control during playback until the picture looks best.
Automatic Playback, Rewind and Eject
When you load a cassette that has the erase-protection tab removed, playback
automatically begins.
When the tape reaches the end during normal recording, playback, or fast-
forward, the VCR automatically rewinds the tape to the beginning, ejects it,
then turns off.
NOTE: If the memory function is activated, the tape stops at 0:00:00 on the
display but does not eject (see "Tape Remaining Time", below).
Fast-Forward/Rewind and Visual Search
When the VCR is stopped, press FAST-F or REWIND to quickly fast-forward or
rewind the tape. You cannot see the picture or hear the sound, but you can
use the counter to locate a specific section of tape (see "Real-Time Counter
with Memory", below). When you reach the desired section, press STOP or PLAY
(X2).
To use visual search, begin regular playback of a tape. Then press FAST-F
to search forward or REWIND to search in reverse. The VCR plays the tape
at a fast speed so you can watch it to find the desired tape location.
Press PLAY (X2) to resume normal playback.
For high-speed visual search, press and hold down FAST-F or REWIND during
visual search. For tapes recorded at the EP speed, the search speed is 27
times faster than the normal playback speed; for tapes recorded at the LP
speed, the search speed is 17 times faster; and for tapes recorded at the SP
speed, the search speed is 9 times faster.
NOTES: During visual search, the VCR mutes the sound and the picture qual-
ity is lower than during normal playback. However, the search pic-
ture is best with tapes recorded at the SP or LP speed.
If you continue high-speed visual search for more than 3 minutes,
the VCR automatically returns to normal playback.
Slow-Motion
For programs recorded at the SP or EP speed, press SLOW on the remote
control during playback to activate the slow-motion function. The playback
speed is automatically reduced to 1/19 of its normal speed. The VCR mutes
the sound during slow-motion.
During slow-motion playback, press SLOW - or + to vary the slow-motion
speed between 1/6 and 1/32 of the normal playback speed.
Press PLAY (X2) to return to normal playback.
NOTES: If you leave the VCR in the slow-motion mode for 5 minutes, the VCR
automatically returns to normal playback.
If the slow-motion picture is poor, adjust the tracking control (see
"Automatic Tracking Control").
To reduce or eliminate jitter in slow-motion pictures, press V-LOCK
on the remote control.
Freeze-Frame/Frame Advance
Freeze-frame lets you stop the tape and view a single frame.
Press PAUSE/STILL on the remote control during playback to freeze the
picture. Press PAUSE/STILL again or PLAY (X2) to return to normal playback.
During freeze-frame, the picture is a lower quality than during normal play-
back. However, the picture is best with recordings made at the SP or LP
speed.
NOTES: If you leave the VCR in the freeze-frame mode for 5 minutes, the VCR
automatically stops.
If a horizontal bar appears during freeze-frame, adjust the tracking
during slow-motion play (see "Automatic Tracking Control" and "Slow
Motion").
To reduce or eliminate jitter in the freeze-frame picture, press V-
LOCK on the remote control.
During freeze-frame, you can advance the tape one frame at a time by press-
ing F/ADV on the remote control. This feature works best with video cass-
ettes recorded at the SP or EP speed.
Tape Remaining Time
This function displays how much time the tape has left to play at the
current speed.
Press CLOCK/COUNT/REMAIN on the remote control until REM appears on the
VCR display and TV screen. The displayed time is the remaining playing
time on the tape.
Real-Time Counter With Memory
Your VCR's counter shows the actual tape run time, not a reference tape
count. When you load a cassette, the counter resets to 0:00:00 on the VCR's
display. As the tape plays, the counter displays the run time in hours,
minutes, and seconds. If you rewind the tape past the zero point, the dis-
play shows the time with a minus (-) sign. To reset the counter to 0:00:00
at any time, press RESET.
Follow these steps to mark and return to a specific location on a tape.
1. Before playback, press CLOCK/COUNT/REMAIN to display the VCR's counter.
NOTE: To view the counter on the TV screen, press DISPLAY.
2. Start recording or playback, and press RESET at the location you want
to return to. The counter displays 0:00:00.
3. Press STOP when you finish recording or playback.
4. Before you return to the selected location, press CLOCK/COUNT/REMAIN
until M appears on the display.
5. Press REWIND or FAST-F. The tape automatically stops at the position
where you reset the counter.
NOTE: Because the counter uses special signals on a recorded tape, the
counter does not work with blank tape or blank portions of par-
tially recorded tapes.
Auto Power Shut-Off
If you press POWER while a tape is rewinding, the VCR automatically turns
off when the tape stops rewinding.
