Installing The Remote Control's Batteries
The remote control requires two AAA batteries (not included) for operation.
We recommend alkaline batteries (Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-555).
CAUTION: Use only fresh batteries of the required size and type.
Follow these steps to install the batteries.
1. Remove the battery compartment cover by pressing the cover's latch in
the direction of the arrow and lifting it out.
2. Insert two fresh batteries in the compartment, as indicated by the pol-
arity symbols (+ and -) marked in the compartment.
3. Replace the cover.
NOTE: If the remote control does not work or operates erratically, replace
both batteries.
Using The Remote Control
Some of the remote control's buttons are duplicated on the VCR's front
panel. You can use these buttons to perform identical procedures either
at the VCR or by remote control.
To use the remote control, point it at the VCR and press the desired
button(s).
Setting The On-Screen Display
Use the remote control to select the desired language, background color,
TV system, and calendar setting from the on-screen menus.
NOTE: If you do not press any button for three minutes while looking at a
menu, the VCR automatically exits the menu.
Language Selection
Follow these steps to display all menu prompts in either English or Spanish.
1. Press POWER to turn on the VCR.
2. Turn on your TV and set it to the same channel as the VCR's CH3/CH4
Switch").
NOTE: If your TV has A/V inputs, be sure to set it to the video mode.
3. Press MENU. The main menu appears on the TV screen.

the language you select.
7. Press MENU to exit the set-up menu.

Background Color Selection
1. Follow Steps 1-4 in the VCR Set-Up Menu, above.
2. Press 5. The color selection menu appears on the TV screen.

3. Press 1 for blue, 2 for green, 3 for pink, or 4 for orange.
The selected color appears in the background.
NOTE: The shade of the background colors might vary depending on the
TV's color setting.
4. Press MENU to exit the set-up menu.
5. Press MENU again to exit the main menu.
TV System Selection
1. Follow Steps 1-4 under "Language Selection", above.
2. Press 1 to switch the display between TV and CATV. Select TV if your
antenna system provides only UHF and VHF channels. Select CATV if your
antenna system is a cable TV line.

Calendar Display
A 100-year calendar, from 1992 to 2091, is available for display. If 92 is
entered for the year, the selected month in 1992 will be displayed. If 91
is entered, the selected month in 2091 will be displayed.
1. Follow Steps 1-3 under "Language Selection", above.
2. Press 6 to set the calendar.

3. Press two digits for the desired month, and two digits for the desired
year. (For example, 0 6 9 3 for June 1993.) The calendar appears.
NOTE: Precede all single digit entries with a 0.
4. To see another month, repeat Steps 2 and 3.
5. Press MENU to exit the main menu.
Audio Mode Selection
Use this menu to set the type of audio you want to receive, record, and
play.
1. Follow Steps 1-4 under "Language Selection", above.
2. Press 7. The AUDIO MODE SET menu appears on the TV screen.

3. Press 1 to switch the AUDIO MODE display between HI-FI and NORMAL.
4. Press 2 to switch the BROADCAST TYPE display between STEREO, MONO and
SAP.
Multichannel Television Sound (MTS) carries stereo and/or Second Audio
Program (SAP) bilingual signals. Set this display to the desired posi-
tion when both MTS indicators (ST and SAP) are lit. When only one of
the MTS indicators is lit, the VCR automatically selects the correspond-
ing receiving mode (Stereo or SAP) regardless of the display position.
For normal operation, the display should be in the STEREO position. The
VCR will then record a stereo program when available, or record a mono pro-
gram if a stereo program is not available.

NOTE: For weak STEREO and/or SAP broadcasting, changing the display to mono
may give clearer sound.
5. Press 3 to switch the AUDIO OUTPUT display between STEREO, LEFT (L) and
RIGHT (R).
During playback when AUDIO MODE is in the Hi-Fi position, select the
audio output signals from the AUDIO OUT terminals (L Ch and R Ch) and
from RF OUT.
