Model 50 VHS Stereo Hi-Fi VCR
(160-0620) Operation Faxback Doc. # 38193
PLAYING A PRE-RECORDED TAPE
Follow these steps to play a pre-recorded tape.
1. Turn on the TV.
2. Set the TV tuner to the same channel as the VCR's CHANNEL 3/4 switch -
either 3 or 4.
If you use a TV monitor that is connected to the VCR's AUDIO/VIDEO
OUTPUT jacks, set the monitor to the video mode.
See "Connections," Faxback Doc. # 38191.
3. Position the cassette with the main label facing up and the spine
label facing out from the VCR. Then, insert the cassette into the
cassette compartment by gently pushing on the center of the cassette's
spine until the VCR completely draws in the cassette.
The VCR automatically turns on and the tape indicator (SYMBOL) lights.
If the erase-protection tab has been removed from the cassette,
playback automatically begins.
Caution:
Never insert anything except a VHS video cassette into the cassette
compartment. You might damage the VCR's internal mechanisms.
4. If playback does not automatically begin, press PLAY.
If you press PLAY, FAST-F ->>, or <<- REWIND when the VCR is off or in
the timer recording stand-by mode, the power automatically turns on
and the function begins.
5. Press STOP to stop playback before the end of the tape.
Then, press EJECT on the VCR to eject the cassette.
If the tape reaches the end before you press STOP, the VCR
automatically stops the tape and completely rewinds it. If the
erase-protection tab has been removed, the VCR ejects the cassette
after the tape fully rewinds.
Notes:
You can press EJECT to eject a cassette when the VCR is off. The
VCR's power temporarily turns on while the cassette ejects.
If the tape is recorded in stereo hi-fi, select the audio output mode
by pressing AUDIO OUT on the remote control.
Storing Your Video Cassettes
Unless you are making an automatic timer recording, eject and store the
cassette before you turn off the VCR. This helps protect the cassette and
the VCR's internal mechanisms from dust.
Place your video cassettes in their protective boxes and store them in a
cool, dry, dust-free environment. Store the cassettes on end, not on
their sides. This prevents improper setting of the cassette's spools.
Note:
Tape can become wound too tightly around the cassette's spools after
numerous playings. This can cause the cassette to improperly load and
automatically eject when you insert it. On most cassettes there is a
brake-release plunger on the bottom center of the cassette. Use the
tip of a pen or pencil to press the plunger and loosen the tape.
Erase-Protection Tab
Video cassettes have an erase-protection tab to prevent accidental erasure
of a tape. If the erase-protection tab is removed, the VCR cannot record
on the tape. The cassette automatically ejects if you try to record on
the tape.
If you want to record on a video cassette that does not have the tab, put
a piece of heavy plastic tape over the erase-protection tab hole.
