PREPARATION FOR USE
REMOTE CONTROL OPERATION
Some of the remote control's buttons are duplicated on the VCR's front
panel. You can use these buttons for identical procedures either at
the VCR or by remote control.
However, several buttons appear only on the remote control. To use the
remote control, install the batteries, point the control at the VCR,
and press the desired button(s). See "Installing the Remote Control's
Batteries."
1. Quick Timer Recording Buttons - use to set the quick timer recording
settings. See "Recording," Faxback
Doc. # 38185.
2. ON SCREEN PROGRAM Buttons - use to set the clock and automatic timer
programs. These buttons are explained in
detail in "Setting the Clock" and
"Recording," Faxback Doc. # 38185.
3. Number Buttons - allow direct selection of any channel within the
tuner's range. See "Connections," Faxback Doc.
# 38181.
4. [OUTPUT SELECT] Button - press to select between the hi-fi and
normal sound during recording and playback.
5. [SIMUL] Button - press to activate the simulcast recording function.
6. Channel [UP ARROW] / [DOWN ARROW] Buttons - press to select the
desired channel in the
direction of the arrow.
7. [ON SCREEN MODE] Button - press to display the current VCR operation
mode information on your TV screen.
8. [COUNTER/CLOCK] Button - press to display in either the counter
or clock mode.
9. [RESET] Button - press to reset the counter to 0000 when the counter
is on the VCR's display.
10. [MEMORY] Button - press to select the counter memory button.
11. [F. ADV] Button - press during freeze-frame to advance the picture
one frame at a time. See "Special Functions,"
Faxback Doc. # 38186.
12. [SLOW], [+] and [-] Buttons - press during playback to begin slow-
motion playback. To vary the slow-
motion speed, press [+] or [-].
Press [PLAY] to return to normal
playback.
13. [MODE LOCK] Button - press to activate the mode lock function.
INSTALLING THE REMOTE CONTROL'S BATTERIES
The remote control requires two AA batteries (not included) for operation.
We recommend Radio Shack's alkaline batteries (Cat. No. 23-552).
Install the batteries as shown below.
1. Remove the battery compartment cover by pressing on the cover and
sliding it in the direction of the arrow.
2. Place two fresh AA batteries in the compartment, observing the
polarity symbols (+ and -) marked in the compartment.
3. Replace the compartment cover.
NOTE: If the remote control does not work or operates erratically,
replace both batteries.
SETTING THE CLOCK
Use the remote control to set the clock.
Be sure you accurately set the clock for proper automatic timer and quick
timer recording. We suggest that you refer to a TV station or radio
station to obtain the correct time.
NOTE: For "Setting the Clock" the instructions refer to the TV's on-screen
display indicators. Some of the VCR's display indicators vary slightly.
In the following example, the clock is set to 5:40 p.m. Tuesday,
May 8, 1990.
1. Plug the VCR's power cord into a standard AC outlet. The VCR's
display flashes SA AM 12:00.
2. Press [POWER] to turn on the VCR.
3. If you want to use the on-screen display, turn on the TV and set
it to the same channel as the OUTPUT CHANNEL switch on the back of the
VCR.
Then, press [TV/VCR] so that VCR appears on the VCR's display.
NOTE: If you use a TV monitor, be sure to set it to the video mode.
4. Press [ON SCREEN]. The program/clock display appears on the TV
screen. The bottom line is the clock display.
5. Press [CLOCK SET]. The hour digits flash. Then, press [UP] or [DOWN]
until the TV displays the correct hour (PM 5:00, for example).
NOTE: Your VCR uses a 24-hour a.m./p.m. clock. Be sure that the
TV correctly displays AM or PM.
6. Press [SET]. The minute digits flash. Then, press [UP] or [DOWN]
until the TV displays the correct minute (PM 5:40, for example).
7. Press [SET]. The month flashes. Then, press [UP] or [DOWN] until
the TV displays the correct month (MAY, for example).
8. Press [SET]. The date digits flash. Then, press [UP] or [DOWN] until
the TV displays the correct date (8, for example).
9. Press [SET]. The year digits flash. Then, press [UP] or [DOWN]
until the TV displays the correct year (90, for example).
NOTES: The TV does not display seconds, but they begin counting
at 00 when you press [SET], after you set the year.
You automatically set the day of the week when you set
the month, date, and year.
10. Review the entered information.
If it is correct, press [SET]. Then, press [ON SCREEN] to return
to the normal TV display.
If the information is incorrect, press [SET], [CLOCK SET] and
repeat Steps 5-10.
If the TV's display shows on abnormal reading or no reading, use
a ball-point pen to press [ALL CLEAR] in the VCR's control
compartment and clear all the programmed information.
