Model 45 VCR
(160-0615) Special Functions Faxback Doc. # 38151
TAPE MOTION DISPLAY
The display tells you the tape-motion mode of the VCR at all times.
During tape playback or recording, PLAY or REC appears. The bars above
these displays show the tape direction and speed.
DUAL-SPEED VISUAL SEARCH
Visual search allows you to view a tape in the forward or reverse
direction at one of two fast-search speeds.
To search at the slower search speed, begin regular playback of a tape.
Then, press and release [FAST-F] to search forward or press [REWIND] to
search backward.
To search at the faster speed, press and hold down [FAST-F] or [REWIND].
Release the button to search at the slower speed.
Press [PLAY] to return to normal playback speed.
During visual search, the sound is muted and the picture is lower in
quality than during normal playback. However, the search picture is best
with tapes recorded at the EP speed.
FREEZE-FRAME
Freeze-frame allows you to stop the action while playing a tape.
Press [PAUSE/STILL] during playback to freeze the picture. Press [PLAY]
to return to normal playback.
During freeze-frame, the picture is lower quality than during normal
playback. The picture is best with recordings made at the EP speed.
Notes:
Adjusting tracking before using freeze-frame reduces or repositions
video noise. See "Tracking Control."
If you leave the VCR in the freeze-frame in the freeze-frame mode for
more than five minutes, it automatically switches to the normal
playback mode.
FRAME ADVANCE
(Remote Control Only)
During freeze-frame, you can advance the picture one frame at a time by
pressing [FRAME].
During frame advance, the picture is lower quality than during normal
playback. The picture is best with recordings made at the EP speed.
SLOW-MOTION/QUICK-MOTION
(Remote Control Only)
When playing an EP-speed recording, press [QUICK] to double the playback
speed. Press [SLOW] to reduce the playback speed to 1/10 of normal.
The sound is muted during slow- and quick-motion.
During slow- and quick-motion, the picture is lower quality than during
normal playback. Slow- and quick-motion are not available with SP- or
LP-speed recordings.
Press [PLAY] to return to normal playback speed.
Notes:
Adjust the tracking using the [TRACKING] buttons to reduce video noise
during slow motion.
Slow-motion can be performed during freeze-frame of EP-speed
recordings.
If you leave the VCR in the slow-motion mode for more than five
minutes, it automatically switches to the normal playback mode.
REAL TIME COUNTER WITH MEMORY
(Remote Control Only)
The Model 45's counter shows actual tape run-time, not a relative tape
counter reading. Use the counter and memory functions to mark and return
to specific locations on a video tape.
When ever you load a cassette tape, the counter is reset to 0H 00M 00S.
As the tape moves, the counter displays the actual run-time. If you
rewind the tape past the zero point, the display shows the time with a
minus (-) sign.
The counter operates using control signals recorded on the tape.
Therefore, if you playback a tape with nothing recorded, the counter does
not operate.
To use the counter's memory function:
1. Press [COUNTER/MEMORY]. The display changes from the clock display to
the counter display.
Note:
Press [CLOCK] to return the clock display. When a tape is playing
or recording, the counter continues counting, even when it is not
displayed.
2. Press [RESET] at the location you wish to return to; the counter
displays 0H 00M 00S. Then, continue recording or playback.
3. When you are ready to return to the selected location, press
[COUNTER/MEMORY] so that M appears on the display; then, press [STOP]
and [REWIND]. The tape rewinds and automatically stops at 0H 00M 00S.
The counter memory feature operates in fast-forward mode too.
Note:
You can use the memory function whenever the M is displayed, even if
the display is showing the actual time.
TRACKING CONTROL
(Remote Control Only)
The TRACKING [Up Arrow]/[Down Arrow] buttons let you adjust your VCR for
the best playback of tapes. If the picture quality is poor, adjust this
control for best results.
FAST-FORWARD AND REWIND WITH VIDEO MONITORING
Use [FAST-F] and [REWIND] when the VCR is in the stop mode to move the
tape quickly in the desired direction. Press and release the appropriate
button. The tape moves rapidly in the direction you chose, but there is
no picture or sound. Use the real-time counter to locate specific
sections of the tape.
When the counter displays the approximate time you want, press and hold
[FAST-F] or [REWIND]. The tape speed decreases somewhat and you see a
fast-motion picture on TV screen. Of course, you must press [TV/VCR] so
that VCR appears on the display, or you must set your TV monitor to the
video mode.
RECORD PAUSE
Use [PAUSE/STILL] during recording to edit out unwanted material, such as
commercials.
Simply press [PAUSE/STILL] at the beginning of the unwanted material.
The tape stops temporarily. Press [RECORD] to resume recording.
Using [PAUSE/STILL] makes a smooth, almost unnoticeable edit. If you use
[STOP], there will be a glitch at the edit point.
Note:
If you leave the VCR in the pause mode for more than five minutes
during recording, the VCR automatically switches to the stop mode.
AUTOMATIC PLAYBACK SYSTEM
When a cassette with no erase tab is loaded into the VCR, playback begins
automatically.
When the end of tape is reached, the tape automatically rewinds to the
beginning and ejects. If the counter memory function is activated, the
tape stops at 0H 00M 00S point but does not eject.
AUTOMATIC REWIND SYSTEM
When the tape reaches the end during manual recording, playback, or
fast-forward, it automatically rewinds to the beginning (or to the 0M 00H
00S counter reading if the counter memory function is activated).
If the cassette does not have erase prevention tab and the counter memory
function is not active, the VCR ejects the cassette.
REPEAT PLAYBACK
(Remote Control Only)
You can repeat any portion of the tape as follows:
1. Press [REPEAT] at beginning of the section you want to repeat.
2. Advance the tape to the end of the section you want to repeat, and
press [REPEAT] again.
If you want to repeat the entire cassette, you only need to press and hold
[REPEAT] and insert the cassette into the slot at same time.
To cancel repeat playback, press [STOP].
Notes:
To prevent tape damage, the VCR will not repeat a section of a tape
more than five times in a row.
You can use freeze-frame and frame advance during repeat playback.
You can also use slow-motion during repeat EP-speed playback.
If you press [PLAY], [FAST-F], or [REWIND] during repeat playback,
repeat playback is cancelled. If you press [Quick] during EP-speed
playback, repeat playback is cancelled.
DEW PROTECTION SYSTEM
Moisture condensation inside the VCR can cause tape jams or video head
damage. The dew protection system helps avoid such damage by preventing
VCR operation when it senses excess moisture.
Activation of the dew protection system is indicated by a flashing stop
indicator (-----).
You can resume normal operation only after the moisture is gone and the
indicator stops flashing.
