Your Realistic Model 45 VHS Stereo Hi-Fi VCR is a new breed of VCR that
contains three of most advanced features available in home video
recorders:

    Hi-Fi Stereo Sound

    Multi-Channel Television Sound (MTS) with SAP

    HQ Circuitry (for improved recording and playback of video tapes)

The PLL tuner, full-function remote control, on-screen display, and other
special features listed below assure convenience and ease of operation.

Please read this owner's manual carefully.  It has been prepared to assist
you with initial setup procedures and to guide you in everyday operation
of the Model 45 VCR.

                     Hi-Fi Stereo Sound - delivers audio quality
                                          comparable to digital discs.

                           HQ Circuitry - improves picture sharpness
                                          compared with similar
                                          non-HQ VCRs.

   Multi-Channel Television Sound (MTS) - decodes stereo broadcasts for
                                          recording or listening.  The
                                          Model 45 can also receive and
                                          record the special audio
                                          programs (SAP) that accompany
                                          some MTS broadcasts.

                   Fast-Response System - increase speed of operation by
                                          loading the tape into the
                                          mechanism as soon as you insert
                                          the cassette.

              122-channel, Digital-PLL, - lets you select any VHF or
              Cable-Compatible Tuner      UHF channel (2-83) and up to
                                          52 cable channels.

    Note:

    The tuner does not unscramble premium cable channels.

         21-day, 6 event, Digital Timer - lets you program the VCR to make
                                          up to six unattended recordings
                                          during a 21-day period.
                                          Weekday-only and weekly
                                          recordings are also possible.

                  On-Screen Programming - provides helpful instructions on
                                          the TV screen for setting the
                                          clock and the automatic timer
                                          programs.

                  Quick Timer Recording - lets you start a recording
                                          immediately or within the next
                                          24 hours, and stops recording
                                          automatically after the length
                                          of time you select (30 minutes
                                          to four hours or to the tape
                                          end).

          Real Time Counter with Memory - displays the actual length of
                                          record/playback time since the
                                          beginning of the tape, instead
                                          of a relative counter number.
                                          This lets you now exactly how
                                          much time is left on a tape.

     Automatic Tuner Memory Programming - with the touch of a button,
                                          stores in memory all the active
                                          channels in your area.

           Full Function Remote Control - is the master control for the
                                          Model 45.  It provides remote
                                          access to all tape motion
                                          controls.  It also allows
                                          control of power on/off, channel
                                          selection, the [TV/VCR] button,
                                          clock/counter display modes,
                                          counter reset, memory functions,
                                          tracking, tape speed quick timer
                                          recording, repeat playback, and
                                          audio output.  You can even use
                                          the remote control to set the
                                          clock and automatic timer
                                          programs.

ACCESSORIES

Your Model 45 VCR is packaged with the remote control and the connection
accessory (shown below).  Be sure to remove these items before storing the
packing material.

    The 75-ohm cable with VHF/UHF band splitter is used to connect the
    VCR's VHF/UHF OUTPUT terminal to the TV's antenna terminals.

CONTROL LOCATIONS

The VCR's controls are located along the bottom edge of the front panel
(some are inside a control compartment).

Some controls appear only on the front panel or in the control
compartment, and some appear only on the remote control.  However, most
controls appear in both locations.  If a control appears both places, this
manual does not make special note of its location.  If a control appears
in only one location, the manual specifies that location.
