VHS Hi-Fi VCR
(160-0614) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 38068
This section shows the most basic connections and procedures necessary to
begin using your VCR. We urge you to read the owner's manual completely,
so you can get acquainted with all of the Model 44 features.
When the unit is first plugged in, the clock flashes. You can operate the
VCR manually without setting the clock. Or, if you prefer, see
"Setting the Clock" before proceeding.
Caution:
In areas of high humidity or when the VCR has been moved form a cold
area to a warm one, it is necessary to plug in the VCR and allow it to
warm up for one to two hours before operating it. This allows
complete evaporation of any moisture inside the unit that could
prevent operation by activating the DEW sensor.
BASIC CONNECTIONS
1. Disconnect the antenna or cable wires from the antenna terminals on
your TV.
2. Connect the antenna or cable wires to the combined VHF/UHF INPUT
terminal on the VCR.
If you have 300-ohm antenna wire, use a 300-to-75 ohm adapter
(Cat. No. 15-1253) to complete the connection to the VHF/UHF INPUT
terminal. If you have separate antennas for VHF and UHF, use a signal
combiner (15-1294).
3. Connect single connector end of the supplied 75-ohm cable to the
VHF/UHF OUTPUT terminal on the VCR.
4. Connect the other end of the cable to the antenna terminal(s) on the
TV.
a. If your TV has separate terminals for VHF and UHF, connect the
cable's 300-ohm UHF output to the TV's UHF terminals, and cable's
75-ohm or 300-ohm VHF output to TV's VHF terminal(s)-do not use
both VHF outputs.
b. If your TV has VHF/UHF combined antenna terminal, connect the
cable's 75-ohm VHF/UHF output to the TV's terminal.
PLAYING A PRE-RECORDED TAPE
1. Plug in and turn on the TV.
2. Set the TV tuner to the same channel as the CHANNEL switch on the back
of the VCR-either 3 or 4.
3. Insert a pre-recorded VHS tape into the cassette compartment. The VCR
turns on as you insert the tape. If the erase prevention tab has been
removed from the cassette, playback begins automatically.
4. If the tape is recorded with stereo hi-fi sound, set the PB SELECT
switch to Hi-Fi (AUTO) and the Hi-Fi OUTPUT MODE switch to STEREO.
See "Controlling VCR Inputs & Outputs."
5. If playback does not begin automatically, press [PLAY].
6. Adjust the PICTURE control to obtain the desired picture quality.
7. If you are using speakers connected to the Model 44's speaker
terminals, adjust the VOLUME controls as desired.
When the tape reaches the end, the VCR automatically rewinds the tape to
the beginning. If the cassette does not have an erase prevention tab, the
VCR ejects it and turns off. Press [STOP] to stop playback before the end
of the tape. Press [EJECT] to remove the tape.
