NOTES: The use of the zoom and other functions and outdoor recording (see
Faxback Doc. # 34797) increases the power consumption, so that the
actual recording time per Battery Pack may actually be 30%-50% less
than the max. continuous recording time listed above.

The Battery pack and charger become warm during charging. This is
        not a malfunction.

The charging time and recording time depend on the ambient temp-
erature and the condition of the battery pack.

Extending Battery Pack Life

This Camcorder uses a Ni-Cd (nickel-cadmium) type or Ni-MH (nickel-metal
hydride) type battery pack.

After approximately nine or ten rechargings, use the battery pack until
its charge is fully drained and the camcorder stops operating before
recharging . This will help extend the operating time of the battery
  pack.

Recharge the battery pack right before recording. A battery pack stored
for an extended time will naturally wear down, resulting in decreased
  recording time.

Do not try to recharge a fully charged battery pack before it has been
discharged, as this will cause deterioration of the battery's capacity.

Store the battery pack in a dry, cool place.

CAUTIONS: Charge only RCA model BB45 or BB50 battery packs. Other types of
battery packs may burst, causing personal injury and damage.

If the power source becomes disconnected during recording,
playback, or other operations, the tape will remain wrapped
around the drum, causing possible damage to the tape. Reconnect
the power source to the main unit immediately.

Inserting and Removing the Battery Pack

Inserting the Battery Pack

1. Slide the battery compartment door release on the bottom of the
Camcorder in the direction of arrow, to open the battery compartment
    door.

2. Insert the battery pack into the compartment and push it in completely.

3. Close the door. Be sure to push firmly in the center of the door until
    it clicks.

Removing the Battery Pack

1. Perform step 1 in the above procedure.

2. With the Camcorder facing down, press the lock, and remove the battery
    pack.

Battery Pack Handling

Make sure that you take enough battery packs with you to provide two to
three times your estimated recording time.

Recording time will be reduced in cold weather.

The battery will drain in Recording Standby mode. Turn off the power if
you will not be recording again soon.

CAUTIONS: ALWAYS STOP THE TAPE AND TURN THE POWER OFF, BEFORE
REMOVING THE BATTERY PACK. If you remove the battery pack during
recording or playback, the tape will remain wound around the
video head drum and may be damaged. Should the power source
(battery or adapter) become disconnected during operation,
           reconnect it again immediately.

Do not expose the battery compartment door to strong force, as it
           may come off.

Be sure to close the battery compartment door firmly, especially
before using the Camcorder. If you do not, the battery pack may
come out or Camcorder operation may fail because of the poor
           contact pressure.

Remove the battery pack from the Camcorder or disconnect the
Camcorder from the AC adapter if the Camcorder will not be used
           for a long time.

When removing the battery pack, do not tilt the Camcorder so that
the battery compartment faces down. The battery pack may fall
           out.

ATTENTION: The RBRC seal on the battery used in your Thomson Consumer
Electronics product indicates that we are participating in a
program to collect and recycle Nickel Cadmium batteries through-
out the United States. Please call 1-800-8-BATTERY for infor-
mation or contact your local recycling center.

Using the Optional SCC100 Car Battery Adapter

Use the optional SDC100 car battery adapter when you want to power the
Camcorder from the cigarette lighter socket of your car.

Perform steps 1 through 3 under "Powering the Camcorder from an AC Outlet",
above.

Plug the DC cable into the DC OUT jack on the SDC100.

Next, start the car engine and allow it to idle. Then insert the plug into
the cigarette lighter socket. (The POWER indicator on the SDC100 will
light.)

When Powering From Your Car's Cigarette Lighter

See the SDC 100 operation manual for details.

NOTES: Use in only DC 12V or 24 V negative ground system cars. Positive-
ground car batteries CANNOT BE USED. Check your car operation
manual or consult a local car dealer.

Use the SDC 100 only when the car is idling or being driven. Other-
wise, the car's battery will be drained.

CAUTIONS: Before starting the car engine, the SDC 100 must be unplugged
           from the cigarette lighter socket.

Before removing either the DC plug or the cigarette lighter plug,
the Camcorder's Power switch should be set to OFF.

Battery Packs

Battery Pack Consumption

Recording with many starts and stops, frequent zooming, and recording in low
temperatures will somewhat shorten actual recording time. Accordingly, be
sure to turn off the power when not recording. Use of an auxiliary battery
pack is recommended to prevent undesirable interruptions in your recording.

Do not use an insufficiently charged or weak battery pack. Such battery
packs may cause the power to automatically stop during Camcorder operation
to protect both the battery pack and the unit.

Battery power is consumed even when the Camcorder's power is turned off.
If the Camcorder will not be used, remove the battery pack. (See "Inserting
and Removing the Battery Pack", above)

NOTE: Use only the RCA BB45 or BB50 battery packs. They are designed
specifically for use with this Camcorder.

Battery Pack Life

The battery pack has a limited service life. If the period of use becomes
noticeably shorter with a normal charge, the battery pack is at the end of
its service life. Replace it with a new battery pack.

Extending Battery Pack Life

This Camcorder uses a Ni-CD (nickel-cadmium) type or Ni-MH (nickel-metal
hydride) type battery pack.

We recommend that you use the battery pack until its charge is fully
drained and the Camcorder is inoperable before recharging the pack.

How to use the Battery Pack Cover

After the battery pack is charged, put the cover on it so that the
"CHARGE" mark printed on the label is seen through the window.

Before the battery pack is charged, put the cover upside down so that
only the battery pack casing is seen through the window.

Temperature During Charging

The Ni-Cd (nickel-cadmium) type BB45 battery pack can be charged at
  temperatures of 0 degrees C to 40 degrees C (32 degrees F to 104 degrees
F). To utilize the battery's full capacity, it is recommended that
charging take place at temperatures of 10 degrees C to 35 degrees C (50
  degrees F to 95 degrees F).

The Ni-MH (nickel-metal hydride) type BB50 battery pack can be charged at
  temperatures of 10 degrees C to 30 degrees C (50 degrees F to 86 degrees
  F).

CAUTION: For safety, keep the battery pack in its protective cover when it
is not being used. If the metal parts of the battery pack come in
contact with other metal items, there is a danger that a short
          circuit may occur.
