Model-81 VHS HQ VCR
(160-0519) Recording Faxback Doc. # 34540
The remote control has two [RECORD] buttons. You must press both buttons
to begin manual recording using the remote control. This safety feature
helps prevent accidental erasure of a tape.
TAPE SELECTION
The quality of tape you use greatly affects record/playback quality and
the life of the VCR. Use only tapes that have the official VHS logo.
High-grade tapes give the best results, especially at the SLP speed.
They also have a better oxide coating that helps prevent dirty video
heads.
Although T-160 tapes offer the longest recording time, they contain
thinner tape that is more likely to stretch or cause tape jams. We
suggest that you use T-120, or shorter, tapes.
Below is a chart that shows the maximum recording times for
different-length tapes at the three recording speeds.
CASSETTE IDENTIFICATION T-60 T-120 T-160
SP Mode 1 hour 2 hours 2 2/3 hours
(60 minutes) (120 minutes) (160 minutes)
LP Mode 2 hours 4 hours 5 1/3 hours
(120 minutes) (240 minutes) (320 minutes)
SLP Mode 3 hours 6 hours 8 hours
(180 minutes) (360 minutes) (480 minutes)

Automatic timer recording lets you set the VCR to start and end recording
while you are away. Your VCR has two program timers. You can set one
event to record on a specifc day within the next seven days or once a
day. You can set each program to record on a different channel and at a
different chsnnel and at a different recording speed.
Automatic timer recording consists of two steps: setting the timer and
making the automatic timer recording.
SETTING THE TIMER PROGRAMS
Be sure the clock is set to the correct time before you use automatic
timer recording.
In the example, timer program No. 1 is set to record Channel 32 at the
SLP speed from 7:30 a.m. to 8:50 a.m. next Tuesday.
1. Insert a cassette into the VCR. The VCR turns on.
2. Press [PROG.CHECK] on the VCR.

8. Press [SELECT]. The channel number digits flash. Then, press [SET]

3. Press [TIMER REC]. The VCR's power turns off. The TIMER indicator
and the number(s) of the programmed event appear on the display.

[TIMER REC] to exit the timer-record mode. Then, be sure to press
[TIMER REC] to return the VCR to the timer-record mode before the set
start-time(s).
AUTOMATIC TIMER RECORDING HINTS
* If there is a power failure or the VCR is unplugged for more than a
few seconds, the clock setting and all the timer settings are lost.
* If two timer programs overlap, the one that starts first has priority.
When the first program ends, the VCR switches to record the remainder
of the second program.
* You cannot press [TIMER REC] to enter the timer-record mode during
QTR.
* If you find that an automatic timer recording is going to end too
soon, you can press QTR to lengthen the recording time. QTR takes
over without interruption.
* If the dew protection system stops operation during an automatic timer
recording, the recording is cancelled.
* If a tape is not loaded or the erase-protection tab is removed, the
TIMER indicator flashes and automatic timer recording cannot occur.
Press [TIMER REC] to stop the flashing. Then, load a tape that allows
recording.
