Optimus Model 59 4-Head VCR
(160-0629) Recording with VCR Plus+ Faxback Doc. # 33481
The VCR's VCR Plus+ feature lets you easily record TV programs by using
the PlusCodes shown in most TV program listings.
Setting the VCR Plus+ Guide Channels
Most television guides contain a list of two-digit numbers called guide
channels or VCR Plus+ Assigned Channel Numbers. Each broadcast/cable TV
channel is assigned one of these numbers.
NOTE: You can find a guide channel listing for your area in the TV
section of most Sunday newspapers and other broadcast/cable TV
listings. In some listings, the guide channel numbers are listed
next to the station's call letters.
Before you can record using VCR Plus+, you must first set the VCR's guide
channels so your VCR can recognize the PlusCode published in your
television guide.
NOTES: Before you start, be sure you have completed all TV and VCR
connections (see "Connections" on Faxback Doc. # 31877), set the
clock (see "Setting the Clock" on Faxback Doc. # 31887), set the
on-screen programming language (see "Setting the On-Screen
Programming Language" on Faxback Doc. # 31887), selected the input
signal (see "Selecting the Input/Output Signal" on Faxback Doc. #
31887), and programmed all the channels available in your area
(see "Setting the Channels Your VCR Can Tune" on Faxback Doc. #
31882).
You only need to set the VCR Plus+ guide channels once. The
channels stay in memory even if the VCR's power is interrupted
for an extended period of time.
Follow these steps to set the VCR Plus+ guide channels.
1. Using the list of guide channels in your television guide as a
reference, write down the following information about each station in
your area:
Station name/call letters
Guide channel number for the station
Channel number you select on the TV or VCR to tune the station
2. For each station, compare the station's guide channel number with the
number you select on the TV or VCR to tune the station. If the numbers
match, cross that station off of the list.
3. From the main menu display, press 2 on the remote control to select
VCR PLUS+ CH SET UP. The guide channel entry screen appears.
4. Starting with the first station left on the list, repeatedly press CH
(+) or (-) until the arrow on the display is next to that station's
guide channel number.

second and third digits in the channel number.
If you make a mistake while entering channel numbers,
repeatedly press CH (+) or (-) to select the channel number
(if necessary), press CANCEL to erase the number, then re-

6. After you enter the channel number, cross that station off of the
list, then repeat Steps 4 and 5 for each remaining channel number.
NOTE: If your VCR's tuning source is an antenna or cable without a
cable box, make sure TUNER is set to VCR.
7. Either wait 1 minute or press MENU. The screen disappears.
Timer Recording with VCR Plus+
Most television guides list a 1-to 8-digit number called a PlusCode next
to many of the listed programs. You can use these PlusCodes to easily
program your VCR to record broadcasts.
You can set the VCR to record as many as eight broadcasts, including any
timer programs you want to set up (see "Automatic Timer Recording" below).
You can set the VCR so it records broadcasts on different channels or on
the same channel:
Once The same time each week (weekly)
At the same time each day (daily - Monday through Friday)
NOTES: Before you start, be sure you have set the VCR Plus+ guide
channels for your area (see "Setting the VCR Plus+ Guide Channels"
above).
The VCR can record only one broadcast at a time. If you enter
more than one PlusCode to schedule recording of broadcasts on
different channels that start at the same time, the VCR records
the broadcast whose PlusCode you entered first or with the lowest
program number. For more information about program numbers, (see
"Setting the Program Timer" below).
You can only record with VCR Plus+ when the VCR is off.
1. Turn on the TV and set it to the same channel as the VCR's OUTPUT
CHANNEL switch (3 or 4).
NOTE: If you are using a TV/monitor that is connected to the VCR's
AUDIO/VIDEO OUT jacks, set it to the video mode.
2. Insert a blank cassette, or one that you want to record over, into the
VCR. The VCR turns on, and the stop indicator (<<||>>) appears on the
VCR's display.
3. Press TV/VCR until VCR appears on the VCR's display.
4. From the main menu display, press 1 on the remote control to select
VCR PLUS+. The PlusCode entry screen appears on the TV screen.
