(160-0862) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 31677

CONTROL LOCATIONS

The following illustrations show the location of the controls on the
camcorder and remote control. (See Faxback Doc. # 31673, Fig. A & B.)

Take care when attaching or removing the lens protector, as it is made of
glass.

INSERTING/REMOVING A CASSETTE

You can open the cassette compartment to insert/remove a cassette whenever
a power source is connected to the camcorder, whether or not the
camcorder's power is turned on.

1. Slide the OPEN release to open the cassette compartment door.

2. Press EJECT. The cassette compartment extends automatically.

3. Insert the cassette with the window facing out and the erase protection
tab facing up (see "Erase Protection", below).

4. Press PUSH on the compartment until a clicks into place. The cassette
    compartment retracts automatically.

NOTE: If you do not correctly close the compartment, the cassette
protection mechanism might eject the cassette.

5. Wait for the cassette compartment to retract completely, then close the
    cassette compartment door.

To remove a cassette, open the cassette compartment door, press EJECT, and
pull out the cassette. Retract the cassette compartment as instructed above
and close the compartment door.

CAUTIONS: Do not try to close the door while the cassette compartment is
           extended or retracting.

Do not apply force to the cassette compartment: just press PUSH
           to close it.

Do not lift or hold the camcorder by the cassette compartment
           door.

Do not lift or hold the camcorder upside down when inserting or
removing a cassette. Doing so could damage the tape.

Remove the cassette if you are not going to use the camcorder
           for a long time.

If the cassette is defective, the EJECT THE CASSETTE indicator
appears in large characters on the display for 3 seconds, and
then changes to a flashing EJECT indicator. Remove the
defective cassette and replace it with a new one.

VIDEO CASSETTE HANDLING

Properly handling your video cassettes lengthens their life and the
life of your camcorder. Always treat them with care.

Store video cassettes in their protective boxes in a cool, dry, dust-
free environment. Do not store them in direct sunlight, near heaters,
or in places with excessive moisture.

Keep video cassettes away from magnetic sources, as they can erase the
    recording.

Use video cassette racks that hold the cassettes on end, not on their
sides. This prevents improper settings of the tape spool.

Only use tapes with the 8 mark.

This camcorder is designed for use with MP tapes. If you play an ME
tape on the camcorder, the picture quality will be poor. Always use MP
tapes (such as Radio Shack MP-120 Supertape, Cat. No. 44-451).

Uneven tape winding can damage the tape. If there is slack in the
tape, use your finger to turn the tape spool to take up the slack, and
then rewind the tape properly in the camcorder. Or, use a separate
video cassette rewinder, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 44-1139, to save
wear on your camcorder's motor and conserve battery power.

ERASE PROTECTION

Each 8 mm video cassette has an erase-protection feature to prevent
accidental erasure of a tape. If the erase-protection tab on the cassette's
spine is closed, the camcorder cannot record on the tape. If you want to
record on a tape, use the tip of a pen to open the tab.

NOTE: Do not cover the holes on the bottom of the cassette. These holes
tell the camcorder the type and length of tape you are using.

When setting the power switch to CAMERA or VCR, you must press and hold

ADJUSTING THE PICTURE/VOLUME/BACKLIGHT

the internal speaker's sound is not clear, you can adjust the picture and
volume.

1. Set the power switch to CAMERA or VCR.

2. Press PICTURE/VOLUME ADJUST so the picture/volume/backlight control
indicators appear at the bottom of the monitor screen.

    indicator.

4. Press \/ or /\ to adjust the picture, volume, or backlight.

        BACKLIGHT to BRIGHT.

The picture adjustments have been factory preset to neutral
settings, and BACKLIGHT has been factory preset to NORMAL.

When you adjust the color or tint, the picture on the screen might
be different from the actual recorded picture. The color or tint
settings do not affect the recording.

TURNING OFF THE MONITOR BACKLIGHT

The camcorder monitor uses a fluorescent lamp for backlighting. To reduce
battery pack consumption, you can turn off the lamp when backlighting is
not necessary (for example, when you are watching a playback picture on a
TV connected to the camcorder).

Set the camcorder's power switch to CAMERA or VCR.  Hold down MODE DISPLAY;
in about 3 seconds, LCD LAMP OFF starts flashing in the upper left corner
of the monitor screen. Hold down MODE DISPLAY for 3 more seconds, and the
backlight turns off.

To turn the backlight back on, set the power switch to CAMERA and press
MODE DISPLAY or REC START/STOP, or set the power switch to OFF and then
back to CAMERA or VCR.

The backlight also automatically turns on to display warning indicators
such as the dew, tape-end, and low battery warnings.

ADJUSTING THE HAND STRAP

The hand strap helps you hold the camcorder steady during recording. To
adjust the hand strap, open the hook-and-loop patches on the hand strap.
Then hold the camcorder as shown and put your thumb on REC START/STOP.
Pull the strap until it fits snugly, then seal the hook-and-loop closures.

CAUTION: Do not swing the camcorder by its hand strap.

USING THE STAND

You can pull out the stand and lock it into position when you place the
camcorder on a table or other flat surface. Make sure that the camera lens
stands vertically as shown so the camcorder is stable.

CAUTIONS: Avoid placing any weight other than the camcorder on the stand.

Fold the stand back into the camcorder when it is not being
           used.
