Model 801
(160-0655) Playing A Tape Faxback Doc. # 31376

NORMAL PLAYBACK

1. Turn on the TV and set it to the same channel as the VCR's CH4/CH3
    switch.

If you are using a TV monitor, set the monitor to the video mode.

2. Position the cassette with the main label facing up and the spine label
facing out from the VCR. Then insert into the cassette compartment by
gently pushing on the center of the cassette's spine until the VCR
    completely draws it in.

The VCR automatically turns on and VCR lights. If the cassette's
erase-protection window has been closed on the cassette, playback
    automatically begins.

CAUTION: Never insert anything except an 8 mm video cassette into the
cassette compartment. You might damage the VCR's internal
              mechanism.

3. If playback does not automatically begin, press PLAY on the VCR or on
    the remote control.

If VCR does not appear on the VCR's display press TV/VCR on the remote
    control to select VCR.

4. Press STOP/EJECT on the VCR or STOP on the remote control to stop
playback before the end of the tape. Then press STOP/EJECT (or EJECT
on the remote control) to eject the tape.

NOTES: You can press STOP/EJECT to eject a cassette when the VCR is off.
The VCR's power temporarily turns on while the cassette ejects.

If the tape is recorded in stereo hi-fi, press OUTPUT to select the
        audio output mode.

The HI-FI STEREO indicator on the VCR's front panel lights during
playback unless the cassette was recorded in monaural sound.

Automatic Playback and Rewind

If the tape reaches the end before you press STOP, the VCR automatically
stops the tape and completely rewinds it.

Real-Time Counter

You can use the time counter to mark and return to a specific location on
a cassette tape. To use the counter memory, press DISPLAY until only the
time counter remains on the TV screen.

Press CLEAR at the tape location you want to return to. The counter
resets to 0:00:00.

When you finish recording or playing, press REWIND or FAST-F (in the stop
mode) to start the memory function. The VCR stops automatically when the
counter returns to 0:00:00.

NOTES: The real-time counter automatically resets to 0:00:00 whenever you
eject the tape from the VCR.

If you rewind the tape farther back than a counter reading of
0:00:00, a minus (-) will appear in front of the counter time.

The time counter will not advance during unrecorded portions of
tape. When an unrecorded segment of tape is encountered, the time
counter holds its count until it detects recorded material again.

The time shown on the display is based on the current setting
        of the tape speed.

FAST-FORWARD/REWIND

Fast-forward and rewind let you advance or reverse the tape at the fastest
speed available.

To use fast-forward or rewind, press STOP/EJECT. Press FAST-F to fast-
forward or REWIND to rewind the tape. There is no picture or sound when
you use FAST-F or REWIND, but you can press DISPLAY to view the time
counter on the TV screen and locate specific sections of the tape.

Press STOP to stop fast-forward or rewind, or press PLAY to begin normal
play.

VISUAL SEARCH

During normal playback, press FAST-F or REWIND to view the recording at a
fast playback speed so you can find a specific section on the tape. Press
the same button again or PLAY to resume normal playback.

While you fast forward or rewind, you can temporarily view the picture at
a slower speed. During playback, press STOP/EJECT, then FAST F or REWIND.
While the tape advances or reverses, press and hold down FAST-F or REWIND
to slow down the speed and view the picture. Release FAST-F or REWIND to
return to the fast-forward or rewind speed.

MANUAL TRACKING CONTROL

The VCR automatically adjusts tracking, but you can adjust it manually. If
you see small jitters during freeze frame viewing or noise bars during
slow-motion playback, press TRACKING/V-LOCK \/ or /\ as necessary.

NOTE: TRACKING/V-LOCK only affects playback signals. It does not affect
the quality of TV programs you tune with the VCR's tuner.
