SELECTING THE TV/VCR INPUTS AND OUTPUTS
All VCR inputs and outputs are controlled by the INPUT button and the
TV/VCR button.
Tuner/Audio-Video Input Mode
The VCR selects the video signal from one of two input sources and uses
that signal to record and send to the AUDIO/VIDEO OUT jacks. Press INPUT
on the remote control to select the video signal you want.
If you select TUNER, the VCR receives the video and audio input signals
from the antenna connected to the VCR's IN FROM ANT terminal. The channel
number appears on the VCR's display and the TV screen.
If you select VIDEO, the VCR receives the video and audio input signals
from a playback VCR, recording VCR, or video processor connected to the
VCR's VIDEO/AUDIO IN jacks. L appears on the VCR's display and VIDEO
appears on the TV screen.
NOTES: INPUT has no effect during tape playback.
The input selected affects the VHF/UHF OUT signals only when VCR
appears on the display.
TV/VCR Output Mode
The TV/VCR button selects the video source signals to be displayed on the
TV. TV selects the TV's tuner while VCR selects the VCR's output. The
VCR's output can be the video cassette playback signal or the VCR's tuner
signals.
NOTE: When the VCR is turned on, it sends its signals to the VIDEO/AUDIO
OUT terminal. The TV/VCR setting does not affect the signals.
WATCHING TV
You can watch TV using the TV's tuner to the VCR's tuner.
Using the TV's Tuner
When the VCR is turned off, or when you press TV/VCR so VCR disappears
from the display, antenna or cable signals connected to the IN FROM ANT
terminals pass through to the VCR's OUT TO TV terminals unaffected. This
lets you use the TV's tuner to select channels as if the signals were
directly connected to the TV.
Follow these steps to watch TV using the TV's tuner.
1. Turn off the VCR, or press TV/VCR on the remote control so VCR
disappears from the display.
2. Turn on your TV.
3. Select the desired channel suing the TV's tuner.
Using the VCR's Tuner
When you turn on the VCR, it activates the 181-channel Phased-Lock Loop
(PLL) frequency synthesizer's tuner and automatically sets TV/VCR to VCR.
The tuner lets you select the following:
What the VCR records
Which signal from the VCR is displayed on the TV screen (VCR tuner
output or VCR tape-playback output).
When VCR appears on the display, the signal from the VCR is sent to the
ANT OUT terminals on Channel 3 or 4 so it can be displayed on the TV
screen (even when the VCR is neither playing nor recording a tape).
Turn on the system, then select the desired channel using the VCR's tuner.
Selecting Channels
There are two methods of selecting channels -- sequential and direct.
Sequential - to sequentially select a channel, press CHANNEL /\ or \/.
The tuner automatically advances to the next programmed
channel in the direction of the button's arrow.
NOTE: If you press CHANNEL /\ when the tuner is at the highest
programmed channel, the tuner returns to the lowest programmed
channel. If you press CHANNEL \/ when the tuner is at the lowest
programmed channel, the tuner returns to the highest programmed
channel.
Direct - to directly select a channel, press the remote control's
number buttons for the desired channel. You must precede
one-digit channel numbers with 0 (01, 02, 03 and so on). For
three-digit channel numbers, press 100, then enter the second
and third digits in the channel number.
NOTES: With direct channel selection, you can choose any channel in the
tuner's range, even if the channel is not stored in the tuner's
memory, there is no broadcast present, or the channel is
scrambled. (The tuner does not unscramble channels.)
Three-digit channel numbers are not available in the regular TV
band and can only be accessed while you are in the CATV mode.
