SELECTING TAPES
The quality of tape you use greatly affects record/playback quality and
the life of the Model 25. Use only video cassettes that display the
official VHS logo.
High-grade tape has a better oxide coating that helps prevent dirty video
heads. This type of tape gives the best results.
Although T-160 video cassettes offer the longest recording time, they
contain thinner tape that is more likely to jam. We suggest you use T-120
or shorten length tapes.
The following chart shows the maximum recording time for different-length
tapes at the three recording speeds.

ERASE-PROTECTION TAB
Video cassettes have an erase-protection tab to prevent accidental tape
erasure. If the erase-protection tab is removed, the VCR cannot record on
the tape. The tape automatically ejects if you try to record on the tape.
To record on a tape that does not have the tab, put a piece of heavy
plastic tape over the tab hole.
IMMEDIATE RECORDING
Follow these steps to record the program you are watching.
1. Insert a blank VHS video cassette, or one you want to record over,
into the cassette compartment. The Model 25 automatically turns on.
NOTE: If a video cassette was loaded when you last turned off the
Model 25, press POWER to turn it on.
2. Repeatedly press SPEED to display the desired recording speed.
3. Select the channel you want to record.
4. Press RECORD. The REC indicator turns on and REC briefly appears on
the screen.
NOTE: Press PAUSE during recording to temporarily pause recording
(during commercials, for example). To resume recording, press
PAUSE again or press RECORD.
5. Press STOP to stop recording.
NOTE: To turn off the TV screen while recording, press MONITOR.
ONE-TOUCH RECORDING (OTR)
One-touch recording lets you press a single button to start recording.
Recording immediately begins and automatically stops after the length time
you select (30 minutes to 8 hours).
1. Insert a bland VHS video cassette, or one you want to record over,
into the cassette compartment. The Model 25 automatically turns on.
NOTE: If a video cassette was loaded when you last turned off the
Model 25, press POWER to turn it on.
2. Repeatedly press SPEED to display the desired recording speed.
3. Select the channel you want to record.
4. Press RECORD on the front panel twice to begin recording. OTR and
(0:30) appear on the screen.
5. Repeatedly press RECORD until the desired recording length is
displayed. The recording length are displayed in 30-minute
increments, up to 8 hours.
NOTE: To turn off the TV screen while recording, press MONITOR.
OTR HINTS
To ensure that you record all of the desired program, make the
recording length a little longer than the program material.
OTR cannot function if a cassette is not inserted, if the erase-
protection tab is removed, or if automatic timer recording is in
progress.
During OTR recording, the display shows the remaining recording time.
To cancel OTR, press STOP on the front panel.
The Model 25's power turns off at the end of OTR.
You can check automatic timer program settings during OTR. See "Automatic
Timer Recording."
AUTOMATIC TIMER RECORDING (Timer Numbers 1-7)
Automatic timer recording lets you set the Model 25 to start and end
recording while you are away. The Model 25 has seven program timers that
let you record on a specific day within a 1-year period (NORMAL), the same
day every week (WEEKLY), or at the same time every day (DAILY). You can
set each timer to record on a different channel and at a different speed.
NOTE: You cannot set a timer recording while you are recording.
Setting an Automatic Timer
NOTE: Be sure the clock is set to the correct time before you use
automatic timer recording.
In this example, timer number 1 is set to record Channel 32 at the SP
speed from 7:30 AM to 8:50 AM on May 23rd.
1. Insert a blank cassette, or one you want to record over, into the
cassette compartment. The Model 25 automatically turns on.
2. Press MENU.
3. Select 1 (TIMER PROGRAM) with the remote control's number buttons or
CH/SET \/ or /\.
4. Press SELECT.
5. Select the program number (1-7) by pressing the number buttons or
CH/SET \/ or /\. (Press 1 to select program number 1, for example.)
Then press SELECT.
6. Set the programmed date using one of the following methods:
NORMAL PROGRAM - Use the number buttons to CH/SET \/ or /\ to set the
desired date. (Press 0, 5, 2, and 3 to set May 23rd
for example.)
NOTE: Precede a single-digit entry with 0.
WEEKLY PROGRAM - repeatedly press CH/SET \/ or /\ to display W
followed by the desired day of the week.
DAILY PROGRAM - repeated press CH/SET \/ or /\ to display daily.
7. Use the number buttons or CH/SET \/ or /\ to set the start time.
(Press 0, 7, 3, and 0 to set 7:30, for example).
8. Press 1 to set an AM hour or press 2 to set a PM hour.
9. Repeat Steps 7-8 to set the end time.
10. Press the number buttons or CH/SET \/ or /\ to select the channel
number. (Press 3 and 2 to select Channel 32, for example.)
11. Press number buttons 1-3 to select the tape speed (SP, LP, or SLP).
(Press 1 to select SP, for example.)
12. Double-check all the set information. If you find something wrong,
press ADD/DELETE as needed to erase the wrong entry, and re-enter the
correct information. When everything is correct, press MENU or
SELECT.
To store other programs, repeat Steps 2 through 12.
Clearing an Automatic Timer
Follow these steps to clear an automatic timer.
1. Follow Steps 1-5 under "Setting an Automatic Timer" to select your
desired timer number.
2. Press ADD/DELETE.
To clear another program, select the timer number then press
ADD/DELETE again.
3. Press MENU to return to the normal screen.
TODAY TIMER RECORDING (Timer Number 8)
Today timer recording is a quick way to set the Model 25 to start and end
recording within the next 24 hours. You do have not to enter today's (or
tomorrow's) date.
Setting the Today Timer
NOTES: Be sure the clock is set to the correct time before you use today
timer recording.
Today timer recording uses timer number 8.
You cannot use the remote control to set the today timer.
Follow these steps to set the today timer.
1. Insert a blank VHS video cassette, or one you want to record over,
into the Model 25.
Notes: If a video cassette was loaded when you last turned off the
Model 25, press POWER to turn it on.
If you want to move to the next entry without changing the
current entry, press VOLUME /\. If you change an entry, the
Model 25 automatically advances to the next entry.
If you make a mistake, press VOLUME \/. The end time
disappears and the start time flashes. Enter the correct
information.
2. Press MONITOR. The current date appears on the DATE line and the
current time appears on the START TIME line.

3. Repeatedly press CHANNEL \/ or /\ to set the start time. Be sure to
select AM or PM.
If you select a time that has already passed, the Model 25
automatically advances the DATE display and starts recording at the
set time the next day.
4. Repeatedly press CHANNEL \/ or /\ to set the end time. Be sure to
select AM or PM.
5. Repeatedly press CHANNEL \/ or /\ to set the channel number.
6. Repeatedly press CHANNEL \/ or /\ to select the tape speed (SP, LP, or
SLP).
7. Double-check all the set information. If everything is correct, press
MONITOR to return to the normal screen.
Clearing the Today Timer
Follow these steps to clear the today timer.
1. Follow Steps 1-3 under "Setting The Today Timer."
2. Press VOLUME \/.
3. Press MONITOR (or MENU on the remote control) to return to the normal
screen.
MAKING AN AUTOMATIC TIMER RECORDING OR THE TODAY TIMER RECORDING
After you set the automatic timer program(s) or today timer program, check
to be sure that a blank video cassette, or one you want to record over, is
in the cassette compartment. Then press POWER. The TIMER REC indicator
turns on to indicate that the Model 25 makes the timer recording only if
the power is off at the set start time.
You can turn on and operate the Model 25 manually prior to the set start
time. but the Model 25 makes the time recording only if the power is off
at the set start time.
Automatic Timer Recording and Today Timer Recording Hints
TIMER REC STANDBY flashes on the screen for 2 minutes before a set
start time when the Model 25 is not in the timer standby mode. If
this happens, press POWER to turn off the power.
If there is a power failure or the Model 25 is unplugged for more than
3 seconds, the clock setting and all timer settings are lost.
If the today timer and an automatic timer overlap, the today timer
program has priority.
If automatic timers overlap, the one that starts first has priority.
when the first program ends, the Model 25 switches to record the
remainder of the second program.
You cannot press POWER to enter the timer-record mode during OTR.
After the recording ends, TIMER REC flashes.
If a tape is not loaded or the erase-protection tab is removed, the
TIMER REC indicator flashes and you cannot make an automatic timer
recording. press POWER to stop the flashing. Then load a tape that
allows recording.
CHECKING PROGRAM TIMERS
Follow these steps to check the program timers.
1. Turn on the Model 25.
2. Press MENU and select 1 (TIMER PROGRAM).
3. Press SELECT to select the program check mode.
4. Select the desired program number 1-8 with the remote control's number
buttons or CH/SET \/ or /\. All the set information appears on the
screen.
NOTE: If a program number is flashing, it does not have an event
stored in it.
5. Press MENU to return to the normal screen.
DUBBING
The process of recording from one VCR to another is called dubbing.
Connections for Dubbing
Connect the playback VCR's video and audio outputs to the corresponding
VIDEO-IN and AUDIO-IN jacks on the back of the Model 25 (which is the
recording VCR).
Always use video-quality shielded cables with phono connectors. Do not
use standard audio patch cords.
Dubbing A Video Cassette
Follow these steps to dub a video cassette tape.
1. Load a prerecorded video cassette into the playback VCR.
2. Load a blank video cassette, or one you want to record over, into the
Model 25's cassette compartment.
3. Select the audio and video inputs by entering 00 on the remote
control's number buttons, or select one channel higher than the highest
programmed channel or one channel lower than the lowest programmed
channel.
4. Set TAPE SPEED to the desired recording speed (SP, LP, or SLP).
5. Press RECORD. The tape in the Model 25 begins recording.
6. Begin playback of the tape in the playback VCR.
To turn off the TV screen, press MONITOR OFF.
NOTE: You can also record any other audio/video source that has
audio/video outputs, such as a camcorder or satellite receiver. To
connect one of these devices, connect its audio/video outputs to
the Model 25's corresponding VIDEO-IN and AUDIO-IN jacks.
