Model 800 (160-0654) Operation Faxback Doc. # 3602
PLAYING A TAPE
1. Turn on the TV and set it to the same channel as the VCR's 3CH/4CH
switch.
If you are using a TV monitor that is connected to the VCR's AUDIO/
VIDEO LINE OUT jacks, set the monitor to the video mode.
2. Position the cassette with the main label facing up and the spine
label facing out from the VCR. Then insert the cassette into the
cassette compartment by gently pushing on the center of the cassette's
spine until the VCR completely draws in the cassette.
The VCR turns on automatically and the tape indicator lights.
If the erase-protection window has been closed, playback begins
automatically. (See "Erase-Protection.")
CAUTION: Never insert anything except an 8mm video cassette into the
cassette compartment. You might damage the VCR's internal
mechanisms.
3. If playback does not begin automatically, press PLAY.
Press STOP/EJECT (or STOP on the remote control) to stop playback
before the end of the tape. Then press STOP/EJECT (or EJECT on the
remote control) to eject the tape.
If the tape reaches the end before you press STOP, the VCR
automatically stops the tape and completely rewinds it. The VCR
ejects the cassette and turns off after the tape fully rewinds.
STORING YOUR VIDEO CASSETTES
Store video cassettes in their protective boxes in a cool, dry, dust-free
environment. Use video cassette racks that hold the cassettes on end, not
on their sides. This prevents improper settling of the tape inside the
cassette.
ERASE PROTECTION
All 8mm video cassettes have an erase-protection window to prevent you
from accidentally recording over the tape. To prevent recording, close
the window.
To allow recording, slide the window open.
HOW THE VCR'S TUNER WORKS
The Model 800's 179-channel PLL tuner is active when you turn on the VCR.
The tuner has two functions:
It lets you select what the VCR records.
It lets you select the VCR's output when VCR appears on the VCR's
display (when the VCR is neither playing nor recording a tape).
The tuner has no effect on recording or VCR output when the power is off.
SETTING THE 3CH/4CH SWITCH
When VCR appears on the VCR's display, the VCR sends the selected video
source signal form the VCR's ANT OUT terminal to the TV on the channel you
select using the VCR's 3CH/4CH switch (on the back of the VCR). These
signals are also present at the VCR's AUDIO/VIDEO OUT jacks.
If Channel 3 or 4 is an active channel in your area, set the 3CH/4CH
switch to the other position.
The 3CH/4CH switch has no effect when the VCR is off or when VCR does not
appear on the display.
TV/VCR BUTTON
When VCR appears on the display, the signal from the VCR is sent to the
ANT OUT terminals on Channel 3 or 4.
When VCR does not appear on the display, antenna or cable signals
connected to the ANT IN terminals pass through to the ANT OUT terminals
unaffected. You can use the TV tuner to select channels as if the signals
were directly connected to the TV.
If the VCR is turned on, the signals from the VCR are sent to the AUDIO/
VIDEO LINE OUT jacks, regardless of the TV/VCR setting.

advances to the next memorized channel in the direction of the arrow on
the button you press.
If you press CHANNEL /\ when the tuner is at the highest memorized
channel, the VCR displays L1 for A/V input mode from rear panel AUDIO/
VIDEO LINE IN 2 jacks. Press CHANNEL /\ again, and the tuner returns to
the lowest memorized channel. If you press CHANNEL \/ when the tuner is
at the lowest memorized channel, the VCR enters A/V input modes in the
same manner; press CHANNEL \/ twice to return to the highest memorized
channel.
To directly select a channel, press the remote control's number buttons
for the desired channel. You must precede one-digit channel numbers with
a 0 -- 02, 03, 04, and so on. For three-digit channel numbers, press 100.
Then enter the second and third digits in the channel number.
With direct channel selection, you can choose any channel in the tuner's
range, even if you have not programmed the channel, if there is no
broadcast present, or if the channel is scrambled. (The tuner does not
unscramble the channel.)
CABLE CHANNEL DESIGNATIONS
Your VCR can receive up to 111 cable channels. The VCR displays the
channels as 1-125. Channels 2-13 are the same for VHF and cable TV, and
cable companies usually number them as they appear on the display.
However, cable companies often designate the other channels with a letter
or letter-number combinations. The following chart shows common cable
channel designations.
For more information, contact your cable company. You still might have to
experiment to determine the proper cable channel designations for your
cable system.
