You can display in the viewfinder the battery's power level, the digital
counter, and the time remaining on the cassette.  Press DISPLAY to change
the display.  The displays appear in the following order:  Battery power
level and digital counter ... Battery power level and remaining time ... No
display

DIGITAL COUNTER

This feature lets you mark and return to specific locations on a cassette.
The counter shows the length of tape run in hours, minutes, and seconds. 
The following is an example of how you might use the digital counter:

1.  Repeatedly press DISPLAY until the digital counter appears in the
    viewfinder.

2.  At the beginning of the tape, press RESET/T-160 to reset the counter
    to 0:00:00.

3.  Begin recording or playback.

4.  At points you might want to return to, note the counter reading.

Each time you play back the tape, reset the counter to 0:00:00 at the
beginning of the tape so that the same counter readings correspond to the
same location on the tape.

NOTES:  The counter does not operate when nothing is recorded on the tape.

        The counter resets to 0:00:00 when you eject the cassette.

DIGITAL COUNTER WITH MEMORY

Use this feature to set the camcorder to automatically stop at a certain
point in the tape when you use fast-forward or rewind.

Follow these steps to use this feature.

1.  Press DISPLAY until the counter appears in the viewfinder.

2.  Press COUNTER MEMORY so that M appears to the right of the digital 
    counter.

3.  Begin recording or playback of a tape.

4.  At a point you want to return to, press RESET/T-160 to set the
    counter to 0:00:00.

    Continue recording or playback.

5.  When you are ready to return to the 0:00:00 location, press STOP.

    Then, press REWIND OR FAST-F.  The tape stops when the counter
    returns to 0:00:00.

REMAINING TIME

Repeatedly press DISPLAY to display the amount of recording or playback
time left on the cassette.

If you are using an extended length T-160 cassette, you must then press
RESET/T-160 to display the correct remaining time.

EDIT SEARCH

Edit search lets you view a tape while you have paused recording.  You can
use this feature to search for the end of previously recorded material.

Press and hold down FAST-F while you have paused recording to search
forward or REWIND to search backward.  When you see the segment that you
are searching for, release FAST-F or REWIND.

REVIEW

To quickly review the last few seconds of a recording you just made, do the
following.

1.  During recording, press the red record/pause button to stop the tape.

2.  Press REVIEW on the side of the camcorder.  The tape rewinds a few
    inches.  Then, the tape plays back to the point where you stopped
    recording.

3.  Press the record/pause button to continue recording from that point.

SELF TIMER

When you use this feature, the camcorder begins recording after a 10 second
delay, so that everyone can get into the picture.

CAUTION:  To protect your camcorder, we recommend that you mount the
          camcorder on a tripod when you use the self timer.

1.  Insert a video cassette into the camcorder.

2.  Set the CAMERA/VCR PLAY switch to CAMERA/VCR.

3.  Set the self timer as follows.

    Press SELF TIMER once to stop recording after 30 seconds.  Press SELF
    TIMER twice to continue recording until you press the record/pause
    button (or the tape ends).  To cancel the self-timer, press SELF TIMER
    until STNDBY no longer appears in the viewfinder.

    The camcorder waits 10 seconds to begin recording.  During the delay,
    the recording indicator on the front of the camcorder flashes.  At the
    end of the delay, the red indicator lights steadily and recording
    begins.

4.  Press the record/pause button or press STILL to stop recording, or wait
    until the camcorder automatically stops recording.

INDEX MARKING

Indexing the tapes while recording makes it easy to find desired program
segments when you play back the tape using this camcorder or any VCR that
has the "VHS Index Search System."

To record an index mark, press INDEX so that INDEX appears in the
viewfinder.  Then, begin recording.  Or, press INDEX as you record.

The camcorder automatically records an index mark whenever any of the
following is true:

    You turn on the camcorder and start recording after the camcorder's
    clock has been off for about 4 hours.

    You turn on the camcorder and start recording after the camcorder's
    clock has advanced to the next day while the camcorder was turned off.

NOTE:  INDEX appears in the viewfinder while the camcorder is recording an
       index signal.

DC CAMERA LIGHT (Optional)

Use the DC camera light when the natural or room lighting is not
sufficient.

Using the DC Camera Light

NOTES:  You cannot power the camcorder with a vehicle battery when you use
        the DC camera light.

        The light uses a great deal of power.  When you use the light, the
        battery's operation time decreases to less than half its normal
        operation time. Be sure you turn on the light only when you need
        it.

1.  Attach the AC adapter/charger or a fully charged battery.

2.  Turn off the camcorder by pressing the POWER switch to the right so
    that the red power indicator goes out.

3.  Slide the DC camera light onto the accessory shoe.

4.  Turn on the camcorder by pressing the POWER switch to the right so
    that the red power indicator lights.

5.  Press the light's red power switch to turn on the light.  Press the
    power switch again to turn off the light.

6.  Allow the light to cool before you remove it.

To remove the light, press and hold down its lock button as you slide the
light forward.

CAUTIONS:  The light becomes very hot during operation and remains hot for
           several minutes after you turn it off.

           When the camera light is on, do not allow water to drop on it.

           When the camera light is on, avoid subjecting it to impacts or
           sharp vibrations.

           Do not cover the light's cooling vents.  Doing so prevents
           proper cooling.

           Keep the light away from explosive or highly flammable
           materials.

           Allow the light to cool before storing it in the camera case.

Replacing the DC Camera Light's Bulb

To reduce the risk of fire, replace the bulb only with a CM No. T16-CP10L
bulb.  You can order a replacement bulb at the local Radio Shack store.

Follow these steps to replace the bulb.

NOTE:  To avoid shortening the bulb's service life, do not leave
       fingerprints on the bulb.  Handle the bulb with a cloth, or wipe it
       clean before replacing the light's front case.

1.  Remove the light from the accessory shoe by pressing and holding down
    its lock button as you slide the light forward.

2.  Press and hold down the tab at the base of the light's front case, and
    remove the front case.

3.  Carefully pull out the old bulb and insert the new bulb.

4.  Pass the bulb through the hole in the reflection plate.  Then, replace
    the front case, attaching the upper hooks first.
