TC-193 13" Cable-Compatible Color Television
(160-0229) Operation Faxback Doc. # 18251

Before you operate the TV, be sure that you make the necessary TV
connections described in "Preparation for Use.", (see Faxback Doc. #
18252).

Plug the power cord into an AC outlet.

NOTE: The power cord has a polarized plug - one of the plug's blades is
wider than the other. If you do not have polarized outlets, have
one installed by a qualified electrician before using the TV.

PROGRAMMING THE TUNER MEMORY

You can program the tuner's memory so that the TV scans only the channels
used in your area when you use CHANNEL [DOWN]/[UP].

SETTING THE NORMAL/CATV SWITCH

When you set NORMAL/CATV to NORMAL, the tuner selects VHF/UHF channels.
When you set it to CATV, the tuner selects cable channels.

Depending on the setting of the NORMAL/CATV switch, the tuner is capable of
receiving VHF/UHF channels (2-83) or cable channels (1-47 and 95-99).

Do not change the position of NORMAL/CATV as you switch between direct CATV
signals and cable-box output on channel 3 or 4. Changing the position
clears the programmed tuner's memory. Channels 2 through 13 use the same
frequency on both broadcast and CATV.

1. Set NORMAL/CATV for the type of signals you plan to receive.

CAUTION: Be sure to set NORMAL/CATV to the desired position before you
begin programming. You clear the memory when you change the
              setting of the NORMAL/CATV switch.

2. Press [POWER] on the front panel or remote control to turn on
    the TV.

3. Press and hold [AUTO/ADD] for approximately 3 seconds. The TV's tuner
scans the entire range of the selected band (VHF/UHF or CATV) and
memorizes all the active channels in your area. After scanning all the
channels, the tuner stops on the lowest-numbered active channel.

4. Press either CHANNEL [DOWN] or [UP] to check the channels that are
    stored in the memory.

5. If the TV memorized a channel that you do not want to store, press and
hold [DELETE] for at least 3 seconds while the TV displays that channel
number. The deleted channel appears on the display as you erase the
channel from the memory. The next time you press CHANNEL [DOWN] or
[UP], the erased channel does not tune.

If you want to store a channel that automatic programming missed, use
the remote control to enter and display the desired channel number, and
    then press [AUTO/ADD].

NOTE: If the AC cord is unplugged or a power failure occurs for more
than 10 minutes, the memory information is lost.

SELECTING CHANNELS

There are two ways to select a channel: scanning and direct selection.

To scan for a channel, press CHANNEL [DOWN] or [UP]. The tuner
automatically advances to the next channel in the direction of the
button's arrow.

When the tuner goes beyond the top of its range, it returns to the bottom
of the range. When the tuner goes beyond the bottom of its range, it
returns to the top of its range.

CABLE CHANNEL DESIGNATIONS

The TV is capable of receiving up to 52 cable channels. The TV displays
the channels as 1-47 and 95-99.

Channels 2-13 are the same for VHF and cable TV, and cable companies
usually number them as they appear on the display.

To directly select a channel, you must use the remote control. Simply
press the number buttons for the desired channel. You must precede one-
digit channel numbers with a zero (01, 02, 03, and so on).

With direct selection, you can choose any channel in the tuner's range,
even if there is no broadcast present. (The tuner does not unscramble
cable channels).

However, cable companies often designate the other channels with letters or
letter-number combinations. The following is a chart of common cable
channel designations.
