    inside the compartment.

3. Replace the compartment cover.

Remote Control Features

(POWER), (VOLUME), (CHANNEL), (PICTURE SELECT), (AUDIO MODE), and (TV/VCR)
are on both the remote and the TV/monitor. See "Picture Adjustment" for
more information. To use the remote control, follow these steps:

1. Install the batteries.

2. Point the remote toward the TV/monitor. Then, press the desired
    button.

NOTE: If the remote control fails or is erratic, replace both batteries.

The following remote control buttons control special remote-only functions:

(DISPLAY) button - displays the current channel and current time on the TV
screen. (VIDEO displays when the TV/monitor is in the
video mode.) Pressing (DISPLAY) when the current channel
and time (or VIDEO) are displayed returns to normal
                   viewing.

(SLEEP) button - lets you program the TV/monitor to automatically turn
itself off after 10, 20,30,...90 minutes.

(MUTE) button - temporarily mutes the TV/monitor's internal speakers or
external speakers connected to the TV/monitor's EXT.
SPEAKERS jacks. Press (MUTE) again, or press either of the
VOLUME buttons to return to normal listening. (MUTE) does
not affect the AUDIO OUT jacks.

(CHANNEL RECALL) button - returns to the channel you selected immediately
                          before the currently selected channel.

Number Buttons - lets you directly select any channel in the currently
selected tuner band (VHF/UHF or cable.)

If you press only a single digit, the TV/monitor waits 5
seconds and switches to that channel. If you want to
immediately select a one-digit channel number, enter a
zero first (01, 02,03 and so on.)

(SKIP/SEARCH) button - This button selects the mode of operation for the
CHANNEL up or down buttons. When you select the skip
mode, pressing a CHANNEL button selects the next
channel stored in the tuner memory in the direction
of the button's arrow. When you select the search
mode, pressing a CHANNEL button causes the tuner to
search for the next active channel in the direction
                       of the button's arrow.

(AUTO MEMORY) button - Press to preset to tuner memories automatically.

(CH/TIMER) button - Press to memory in or out for clock, channel ON TIMER
and OFF TIME, or erase memorized OFF TIME.

(TIMER SELECT) button - Press to select the timer set function for clock,
                        on time and off time.

TV Operation (VHF/UHF or Cable TV signals)

Regular Broadcasts

To receive regular broadcasts, follow these steps:

1. Plug the power cord into an AC outlet.

Note: The power cord has a polarized plug, one of the plug's blades is
wider than the other. If you do not have polarized outlets, have
one installed before using the TV/monitor.

2. Press (POWER) on the TV/monitor or remote to turn on the
    TV/monitor.

3. Press TV/VCR until a channel number displays.

4. Set the TV/CATV switch. Set the switch to TV for regular broadcast
channels or cable channels coming from a separate cable box. Set the
switch to CATV if you connected the cable wire directly to the
    TV/monitor without a cable box.

NOTE: The TV/CATV button has no effect when the TV/monitor is in
           VIDEO mode. See "Monitor Operation."

5. If you set the TV/CATV switch to CATV, set the type of cable system you
have (STD, HRC, IRC). If you do not know what type of cable system you
have, contact your local cable company or choose the setting that
results in the best overall performance.

6. Choose the desired channel by entering a two-digit channel number (02,
for example) on the remote control's key pad, or pressing one of the
(CHANNEL) buttons until the desired channel number displays. See
    "Programming the Tuner Memory."

NOTE: If you pause for more than a few seconds, after entering the
first digit, the TV/monitor assumes that you have entered a
single-digit channel number and switches to that channel.

7. Adjust CONTRAST, BRIGHTNESS, COLOR, and TINT for the best picture. See
    "Picture Adjustments" for more information.

8. Use the VOLUME up and down arrow buttons and the BALANCE control to get
    the desired sound.

Multi-Channel Television Sound Broadcasts

If the STEREO and/or SAP (Special Audio Program) indicator lights when you
select a channel, the TV/monitor is receiving an MTS signal. You must also
consider the following:

If only the STEREO indicator lights, you are receiving a stereo signal.
Press (AUDIO MODE) until STEREO displays on-screen.

If only the SAP indicator lights, you are receiving a SAP signal with a
    mono main signal

To listen to the main signal, press (AUDIO MODE) until MONO displays
    on-screen.

To listen to the SAP signal, press (AUDIO MODE) until SAP displays on
    screen.

If both the STEREO and SAP indicators light, you are receiving a stereo
main signal and a SAP signal.

To listen to the stereo main signal, press (AUDIO MODE) until STEREO
    displays on-screen.

To listen to the SAP signal, press (AUDIO MODE) until SAP displays on
    screen.

PROGRAMMING THE TUNER'S MEMORY

Programming the tuner's memory makes channel scanning quicker and more
efficient. You scan only the programmed channels when you press CHANNEL up
or down arrow. If you do not program the tuner's memory, the tuner scans
all channels, stopping on each active one.

You can access any channel, whether or not it is programmed in memory, by
using the remote control's number buttons.

NOTES: If you unplug the TV/monitor or have a failure more than 3 minutes,
tuner preset, clock, on time, and sleep time will be lost. You have
to reset all of the memories.

All tuner programming is done using the remote control.

STORING A CHANNEL IN MEMORY

1. Set the TV/CATV switch for the type of signals you receive. TV2,
    STD1, HRC1 or IRC1 displays.

CAUTION: There is only one tuner memory. If you change the TV/CATV
switch setting and reprogram the memory, previous memory
             information is erased.

2. If you want to store all the active channels in your area in the tuner
memory, press (AUTO MEMORY). The display scans through the channels,
and all active channels are automatically stored.

3. If you do not want to store all the active channels, use the remote
control's number buttons to select a channel you want to program. If
the channel number displays in green, it is already stored.)

USING HEADPHONES

If you want to listen privately, plug low-impedance, stereo headphones with
a 1/8-inch jack into the PHONES jack (inside the control compartment). When
you plug in headphones the TV's internal (or external) speakers are
automatically muted. The headphones do not affect the signal coming from
the AUDIO OUT jacks.

CAUTION: Do not listen at extremely high volume levels, especially when
using headphones. Extended, high volume listening can lead to
          permanent hearing loss.
