INSTALLING THE REMOTE CONTROL'S BATTERIES
The remote control requires two AA batteries (not supplied) for operation.
We recommend alkaline batteries (Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-552).
Install the batteries as outlined below.
1. Remove the battery compartment cover by pressing the cover in the
directions of the arrow.
2. Place two fresh AA batteries in the compartment, observing the polarity
symbols (+ and -) marked in the compartment.
3. Replace the compartment cover.
NOTE: If the remote control does not work or operates erratically, replace
both batteries.
CAUTION: Use only fresh batteries of the recommended size and type.
Always remove old or weak batteries. They can leak chemicals
that can damage electronic circuits.
USING THE REMOTE CONTROL
Some of the remote control's buttons are duplicated on the VCR's front
panel. You can use these buttons to perform identical procedures either at
the VCR or by remote control. The following special-function buttons
appear only on the remote control.
To use the remote control, point it at the VCR and press the desired
button(s).
1. MODE LOCK Button - Press to activate the mode lock function. See "Mode
Lock."
2. Number Buttons - Allows direct selection of any channel within the
tuner's range. See "How the VCR's Tuner Works."
You can also use these buttons to set the clock or
enter timer information.
3. PROG Button - Use to set the clock and automatic program timers.
This button is explained in detail in "Setting the
Clock" and "Automatic Timer Recording."
4. CHECK Button - Press to check automatic timer program contents.
5. ON SCREEN Button - Press to display the current VCR operation mode
information on your TV screen.
6. CH DOWN and UP Press to scan all memorized channels. You can also
Buttons - use this button to adjust tracking, move the cursor
in clock or timer setting, or set the minutes in
quick timer recording. The + and - buttons on the
VCR have the same functions as these buttons.
7. CANCEL Button - Press to reset the counter to 0:00.00. You also use
this button to cancel QTR or repeat playback.
8. SP/LP/EP Button - Press to select the desired recording speed. (The
corresponding tape indicator lights.) See "Tape
Selection."
9. DISPLAY Button - Press to change the VCR display to show the tape
counter, the clock, or the channel number.
10. QTR START TIME Use to set the quick timer recording. See "Quick
and RECORD Timer Recording."
Buttons -
11. F-ADV Button - Press during freeze-frame to advance the picture
one frame at a time. See "Frame Advance."
12. SLOW, UP, and Press SLOW during playback to start slow motion.
DOWN Buttons - To vary the slow-motion speed, press DOWN or UP.
The DOWN and UP buttons also activate the index
search function. See "Special Functions."
13. x2 Button - Press during playback to double the playback speed.
Press PLAY to return to normal playback. See "Quick
Motion."
14. REPEAT Button - Press during playback to activate the repeat
function. See "Repeat Playback."
15. ZERO BACK Press to select the counter memory function. See
Button - "Real-Time Counter with Memory."
SETTING THE CLOCK
Use the remote control to set the clock.
Set the clock accurately for proper automatic timer and quick timer
recording. We suggest you refer to a TV or radio station to obtain the
correct time.
In the following example, the clock is set to 9:30 p.m. December 4, 1991.
1. Press POWER to turn on the VCR.
2. Turn on your TV and set it to the same channel as the VCR's OUTPUT
CHANNEL switch (located on the back of the VCR). Then, press TV/VCR
so that VCR appears on the VCR's display. The TV screen shows a blue
display.
NOTE: If you use a TV monitor, be sure to set it to the video mode.
3. Press PROG on the remote control.
a. If you are setting the clock after plugging in the VCR, the clock-
setting mode automatically appears on the TV screen.
b. If you are not setting the clock for the first time after plugging
in the VCR, the menu display appears on the TV screen. Press
3 to enter the clock-setting mode.
4. Press the remote control's number buttons to set the correct date.
(Press 1, 2, 0, 4, 9, and 1 to set December 4th, 1991, for example.)
Precede a single-digit entry with 0. If you press a wrong number
button, move the cursor to the wrong entry using CH UP/DOWN ON the
remote control or CURSOR UP/DOWN on the VCR and press the correct
button.
5. Press the number buttons to set the correct hour and minute. (Press
0, 9, 3, and 0 to set 9:30, for example.)
6. Press 1 to select AM or press 2 to select PM. Your VCR uses an AM/PM
clock.
7. Review the entered information.
If it is correct, press PROG. The clock-setting mode display changes
to the normal display.
If the information is not correct, move the cursor to the wrong entry
and enter the correct information. Press PROG to store the
information.
NOTES: If you enter an invalid date or time (for example, 13:00 for the
time), the cursor returns to the incorrect setting when you press
PROG. Enter the correct date or time.
Seconds begin counting at 00 when you press PROG.
If you do not enter anything for over 60 seconds, the display
returns to the normal display.
If the display shows an abnormal reading or no reading, unplug
the power cord for about 5 minutes. Then, plug it back in.
