| This tutorial illustrates the contents of a ZipZaps starter kit and how to assemble them. As the vehicles in the starter kits are not pre-assembled, you will have to put your car together. The steps below explain how to do this. |
| RadioShack offers a number of starter kits in various body styles. Additional information on the ZipZaps cars is available on the main ZipZaps page and our how-to pages on tweaking your car's performance and assembly of the Grand Prix Barrier Wall Kit. |
| Inside Your ZipZaps Starter Kit |
The
ZipZaps starter kits include the following items:
Note: In the starter kits, the motor, motor cover, gear and suspension are already installed in the chassis. |
| Step 1: Selecting Wheel Components |
When you first open your starter kit,
the rear wheels will be in three separate parts as shown at left. The
front wheels are part of the chassis. You will need to assemble all wheels by putting on the hubcaps and tires. |
| Step 2: Assembling the Wheels |
Each
hubcap has three pins on the back and a small tab on the edge of the
hubcap. Each wheel has three holes and a slot for the tab. This ensures
that the hubcap can only go on one way and allows the tires to keep the
hubcaps on the wheels. Install a hubcap on each wheel, then put a tire
on each wheel. There are three types of tires: Factory, Sport and All-Season. Factory tires provide maximum handling capacity. Sport tires are racing slicks designed to allow maximum drifting and high-speed performance. All-Season tires provide maximum performance regardless of surface conditions. The Starter Kits come with Factory tires. |
| Step 3: Attaching the Rear Wheels to the Chassis |
When
all four wheels have been assembled, your ZipZaps vehicle should resemble
the illustration to the left. If you want to change out the motor and
gear, go to Removing the Motor Cover before you attach the rear axle.
If you do not want to change the motor or gear, attach the rear axle by snapping it into the two slots at the rear of the vehicle, shown by the arrow at left. At this point, you are ready to attach the car body. |
| Step 4: Putting the Frame On |
When putting the body on the car,
first pull the wire through the hole
in the back glass of the car.
Next, attach the car body by snapping the rear end on first and then snapping on the front. |
| Step 5: Car Completed |
When
the ZipZaps car is fully assembled, it is ready to be charged up! |
