 NOAA is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. It was created in 1970 under the Department of Commerce by combining a number of different bureaus and services, such as the U.S. Weather Bureau, the National Satellite Center, and the Bureau of Commercial Fisheries.  NOAA Weather Radio (or NWR) is a public service provided by NOAA as an "all hazards" radio network. In addition to broadcasting weather alerts, NWR also sends non-weather alerts, for both natural and man-made hazards.
