| Weather is a constant factor in how we live our lives. Whether it is good or bad, sudden or gradual, weather has an effect on nearly everything that we do. Weather is of special interest in areas where weather can quickly become threatening, such as here in Texas in the "Tornado Alley". RadioShack sells a number of products designed to help us prepare for various weather issues.
The most ubiquitous weather device is the weather radio. Designed to receive the seven weather channels and able to signal an alert when a signal is sent, weather radios provide peace of mind to people all over the country. In addition to weather situations and emergencies, the weather radios can also signal an alert for non-weather situations, such as civil emergencies and geologic events (e.g. volcanoes and earthquakes)
Other common types of weather device are stand-alone sensors such as the thermometer and the combination thermometer / hygrometer. These provide either indoor readings or indoor/outdoor readings (by way of a remote sensor). An indoor/outdoor system allows you to monitor the conditions inside the home (in order to control humidity or check the thermostat) as well as outside the home, so that you can dress accordingly.
The most extensive weather device is the weather station. A weather station consists of various sensors, a main control station, and a display. Weather stations allow you to accurately monitor the weather in your area and are used both by weather hobbyists and people needing very localized weather information. |
