Answer: There are two possible reasons for this situation:
- The alarm "learned" both remotes during programming.
There is a ten-second window in which the alarm can "learn" both your remote and the neighbor's remote. This is the usual situation, and it can be fixed by reprogramming your remote.
You should remove power from your alarm for five minutes. Then, power up the alarm when the neighbor is not using his/her remote, and use your remote. This will set the alarm to respond to the "in-house" remote and not to the neighbor's remote.
- Both remotes have the same code.
Because the remote is "keyed" to the last four digits of the serial number, remotes with the same serial number can control the same alarm. However, there is a much smaller chance that both remotes have the same code.
If this is the case, then the only solution would be to replace one of the alarm systems.
