 490-0481 Smoke Detector

Question: Why does this chirp every couple of minutes?

Answer:
Chirping often indicates an accumulation of dust. The sensor uses a visual message to see if there is smoke, and dust can get in between the sensors. You should vacuum the detector out. If this does not resolve the problem, follow the steps below to check your system:
  1. Remove the 2.2 kOhm resistor (if still installed).
  2. Test the EOL module and replace if defective.
  3. Remove all sensors and see if the system stops chirping.
  4. If so, add each sensor one at a time with the EOL module, and replace the sensor that starts the system chirping.
  5. If the system chirps with no sensors installed, the problem is with the panel; it should be sent to service.
