| Motion Detectors are designed to detect motion in a specific area of your home. For Example, you might want to protect the area around a stereo system, a jewelry box, or a wall safe. The owner's manual for the detector usually provides information about where to mount the detector for the best coverage.
There are three types of motion detectors; ultra-sonic, infrared, and microwave.
Ultrasonic motion detectors send out a high-frequency signal that reflects off of objects in the protected area and returns to the detector. When something or someone moves in the protected area, the detector triggers the alarm.
Infrared motion detectors are similar to ultrasonic detectors, except that they are sensitive to changes in infrared light waves or heat instead of sound waves. Your local Radio Shack store sells an infrared motion detector/transmitter for use with this system (Cat.No.49-2025).
Microwave detectors also work in the same way as ultrasonic detectors, except that they use radio waves instead of ultrasonic sound to detect motion. |
