| Problem: It beeps for about a minute when I arm it. |
Possible Cause |
Suggestion |
| The 610-2610 control panel will beep for 60 seconds when it is armed using the hand-held remote. |
This is normal and cannot be changed. |
| The 490-2551 hand-held remote is set to max. The remote has a min/max switch. With the switch setting on max, it is in delayed arm mode and will beep for 60 seconds. |
Move the switch setting to min, which arms the system in instant arm mode (with no delay). |
| Arm the system with the keychain remote (which also has no delay). |

| Problem: How do I determine if the problem is my control panel or a transmitter? |
Possible Cause |
Suggestion |
| If you have added a new zone, did only one light come on? |
No: Reinstall the whole system. |
| Yes: Go to the next question. |
| Does the number of zone lights match the number of transmitters in the installation? |
No: You will need to reinstall. There may be two zones connected to the same transmitter. |
| Yes: Go to the next question. |
| Are any of the zone lights blinking/flashing? |
No: Reinstall. |
| Yes: Press the test button on the transmitter for the zone light that is flashing and go to the next question. |
| Does the light stop flashing? |
No: Try moving the base closer to the unit. If this does not solve the problem, reinstall the entire unit. |
| Yes: The base is not seeing the transmitter. Try a new battery and/or a new transmitter. |
| After reinstalling, does the same zone on the base flash? |
No: If the same transmitter is flashing, then it could be a bad transmitter. Replace the transmitter. |
| No, and replacing the transmitter doesn't help: You will need to start checking what has changed in the surrounding environment. RFI (radio frequency interference) may be causing problems with the system. For example, radio transmissions, stationary transmitters in the area, new appliances, florescent lights are a few examples of products that can cause RFI. |
| Yes: Replace the control panel. |

| Problem: I keep getting false alarms. |
Possible Cause |
Suggestion |
| Do they happen at the same time and on the same zone every day? |
No: Check the transmitter. |
| Yes: Check for RFI (radio frequency interference). RFI may be causing problems with the system. For example, radio transmissions, stationary transmitters in the area, new appliances, florescent lights are a few examples of products that can cause RFI. |

| Problem: I need to add a dialer and siren to the 490-2011. |
| Answer: Connect the dialer to the positive and negative dry-contact termainals along with the external siren. |
Back to the Troubleshooting Index |
| Problem: I need to add a dialer and siren to either the 490-2551 or the 610-2610. |
| Answer: An external dialer is not needed as it is built into system. An external siren cannot be added. |

| Problem: The indicator on the door/window transmitter or smoke alarm siren detector does not light, or the confirmation tone or alarm does not sound.
|
Possible Cause |
Suggestion |
| The battery installation is incorrect or the battery is dead. |
Reinstall or replace the battery. |
| The transmitter or siren detector is out of the base's operating range. |
Move the transmitter or siren detector closer to the base, or move the base closer to the transmitter or siren detector. The transmitter and siren detector have a maximum range of about 150 feet, which is adequate in most normal-sized homes. However, the actual range depends on the operating conditions and environment. You can determine the actual range only by testing the system. |
| The transmission between the transmitter or siren detector and the base is blocked. |
Be sure the base, transmitter, and siren detector are not near metal ductwork or large metal objects. |
| The siren detector does not detect a smoke alarm's siren. |
Be sure the siren detector is mounted 4-6 inches from the smoke alarm and on the same wall as the smoke alarm. |
