| Question: What is the function of the zeromatic feature? |
Answer: Normally, when scanning a frequency range, the scanner will stop when it reaches a frequency with a stong enough signal to break the squelch setting. Since the typical "good" narrow-band FM signal has a deviation of +/- 5 Khz anyway, the actual total bandwidth including the tails of the sidebands can be much greater than that. Since some scanning intervals are smaller than that, your scanner may actually stop short of the center, or correct frequency, and your reception may be a little bit garbled. The Zeromatic function will allow the scanner to attempt to find the correct center frequency (also called the "zero-beat" frequency).
