RadioShack's Guide to Home Theater Systems

Home Theater in a Box

More and more audio manufacturers are offering complete home theater sound systems. Because this new kind of system can fit in a single shipping carton, it is now referred to as a "home theater in a box". Everything you need for your system, such as the cables, are included. These systems are great for people with limited budgets and who are short on space. All of RadioShack's systems come completely color-coded at the cables and the connection on the receiver or DVD player, making it extremely easy to hook up. The only real disadvantage to buying the "home theater in a box" is that it is not easily upgradeable by changing out components, as would be a system created from separate components.

These new systems have the necessary playback electronics, including Dolby* Digital decoding, a multi-channel speaker system typically consisting of five small speakers, and a compact subwoofer. Some of these units contain a simple A/V receiver, which connects to your program sources and the speakers, or the receiver is built right into one of the speakers (usually the subwoofer). The last kind of "home theater in a box" systems combine a DVD player and the system electronics in one compact unit. Now anyone can own their own home theater system.

RadioShack offers a number of different "home theater in a box" systems, both through your local RadioShack store and through our on-line catalog of home theater systems.
