Creating Mailable Videos from Digital Motion Video |
 |
 |
How do I share my pictures with people who don't have a computer? How do I create photo prints from digital images?
Sending video by e-mail or on a CD is a convenient method of sharing images; however, it does require that the people getting the videos have a computer and a relatively fast Internet connection for e-mail (video files can be very large). In order to share your motion video with people who do not have a computer, who have a slow connection or who simply want a regular video instead of a digital file, there are three methods available.
The first method is to use a DVD writer drive to write the digital video to a DVD which can be sent by mail and played on a standard DVD player. |
|
| Requirements |
- DVD writer.
- DVD writable discs.
|
| Advantages |
- Provides a true digital image.
- Allows you to convert videos to a mailable form at home.
- You can edit the video exactly as you want it.
|
| Disadvantages |
- Time intensive.
- The writing process often requires multiple write attempts to get a readable DVD.
- Creating multiple copies means multiple work.
|
The second method is to connect the camcorder to your VCR and dub it to tape. |
| Requirements |
- Camcorder must have standard video output.
|
| Advantages |
- Allows you to convert videos to a mailable form at home.
- Some people do not have DVD players.
|
| Disadvantages |
- Very time intensive.
- Editing requires specialized equipment, or editing on the computer and uploading the video back to the camera before dubbing.
- Converts the video to analog, with a loss in image quality.
- Creating multiple copies means multiple work.
|
The third and simplest method is to upload the video files to a processing center and have them convert the video to the format you want (as many copies as you want). Then, you can either send them by mail or have the center mail them for you. You can also handle multiple copies by storing the video on the processing center's website and allowing people you authorize to select and pay for their own copies. |
| Advantages |
- On-line storage option allows people who want a copy to select and pay for their own copies.
- Offers a range of options, from DVD videos to converting VHS videos to DVD.
- Videos may be sent to the address you specify, saving a trip to the post office.
|
| Requirements |
- Ability to upload the images to the processing center (Internet connection).
|
| Disadvantages |
- Upload can take a significant amount of time, as prints should be made with the largest-resolution of image.
- Videos are not available immediately.
