Creating Prints from Digital Still Images

Sharing Digital Images Creating Mailable Videos from Digital Motion Video

How do I share my pictures with people who don't have a computer?
How do I create photo prints from digital images?

Sending images by e-mail or on a CD is a very convenient method of sharing images; however, it does require that the people getting the images have a computer. While computers are becoming more and more prevalent, we understand that they are still far from universal. In order to share your still images with people who do not have a computer or who simply want a print instead of an image file, there are two methods available.

The first method is to print the picture at home using an inkjet printer and photo paper and send by mail.

Requirements
  • Inkjet printer
  • Photographic paper
  • Color cartridges
Advantages
  • Allows you to create prints in a few minutes
  • Can be done at home
Disadvantages
  • Good quality prints, but not equivalent to professionally-processed prints.
  • Size and formats are limited by the special papers required.
  • Creating multiple copies means multiple work.
The second and simplest method is to upload the images to a processing center and have them process just the images you want (as many copies as you want). Then, you can either send them by mail or have the center mail them for you. You can also handle multiple copies by storing the images on the processing center's website and allowing people you authorize to select and pay for their own copies.

Requirements
  • Ability to upload the images to the processing center (Internet connection).
Advantages
  • Often provides an on-line storage option.
  • Offers photo-quality professional prints, due to using better printer.
  • Prints are made on traditional photographic paper.
  • Images can be printed on clothing or other items, such as mugs.
  • Higher-quality printers and paper create longer-lasting prints.
  • Cost-per-print is less expensive than using other high-quality digital printing methods from home (as they require higher-end printers, expensive papers, and inks or dyes).
  • Prints may be sent to the address you specify, saving you a trip to the post office.
Disadvantages
  • Upload can take a significant amount of time.
  • Prints are not available immediately.
