What other accessories are available and why would I use them

In addition to the minimum recommended equipment listed on the previous page, there are a number of accessories available for digital photography, which offer options and advantages beyond the basic equipment. These accessories are either for use with a computer or stand-alone accessories which do not require a computer.

The table below lists the digital photography accessories for use with a computer.

Printer In order to create prints from home, you would need an printer which is able to create prints. The most common option is an inkjet printer using special photo paper. Inkjet technology has improved to the point that these printers are capable of producing photo-realistic (photo quality) images.

Additional printer options are Dye Sub and Thermo Autochrome printers; however, these are significantly more expensive.

High-end Video Card Allows improved speed and performance. If you are importing video via composite video and are having speed problems with your current video card, a new card may help resolve the situation. Video Cards
Stand-alone Editing Software Provides advanced features and capabilities. The software provided with a digital camera or camcorder is often a smaller version of a program designed to provide standard functions. While the included software is generally sufficient for most uses, more advanced functions are not available.
Faster CD-RW Drive Allows faster write speeds. The write speed relates to how long it will take to create a single CD. If you find you are making multiple copies and are not happy with the amount of time, you may consider replacing your CD-RW drive. Storage Drives
DVD-RW Drive Allows you to save videos using DVD-R discs. If you are working with videos and would like to display them on a DVD player, a DVD-RW drive allows you to do this from your computer.
Note: If you are only needing a few videos to display in this format, you can have a digital photo processing center do this for you.
Larger Hard Drive Provides more on-computer storage for image files.
