DR-89 Digital Recorder (Cat. No.140-1189)
Tutorial: How to Upload Messages Using the Voice Recorder Link Software

The following tutorial will show you how to upload messages from the Digital Recorder to a computer using the Voice Recorder Link software.
For additional information on this product, see the links below:

Step 1: Connect the Digital Recorder to the Computer

Use the USB cable to connect the Digital Recorder to the computer. The Digital Recorder screen will display the word LINK.

Step 2: Open the Voice Recorder Link Software

Click on the Voice Recorder Link program icon on the computer desktop to open it. The default display is Folder A and the messages that it contains.

Step 3: Select the Message to Upload

Click on the folder tab that contains the message you want to upload and click on the message you want to upload to select it. In this case message # 4 in folder C was selected.

Step 4: Select the Save Information

Click on the "Upload the selected message from unit to pc" icon. A Save As window will display on the computer. Select the location, name and format for saving the message.

Notes:

  • If you double click on the message, instead of highlighting it as described in Step 3 and then click on the "Upload the selected message from unit to pc" icon as described above, the Save As window will display immediately.
  • The default name in the Save As window for the selected message is "MSG +  folder letter + message number" (e.g. MSGB04, message # 4 in folder B). The message can be left with this name and renamed, if desired, at a later time.

Step 5: Select the Format in which to Save the Message

The two choices of format for saving files are both wave (WAV) files but they have different qualities. The TrueSpeech (TM) format compression method was written specifically for the needs of recorded human speech. The saved files are much smaller than the second choice of format. The second format is PCM which is a non-compressed wave file. These files are much larger but are of better quality.

Step 6: Upload the Message to the Computer

Click SAVE to upload the message to the selected folder on your computer.
