DR-89 Digital Recorder (Cat. No.140-1189) Tutorial: How to Record a Message
This tutorial will show you how to record a message. Messages can be recorded with either an external microphone which is plugged in to the MIC jack located at the top of the recorder or the recorder's own internal microphone. A message can be indexed as it is recorded, so that on playback it can be searched and a specific portion be listened to.

If VOX (voice activated recording) has been enabled then the recorder will record automatically whenever sound is detected. On the display REC and VOX will flash.

The recorder is automatically set to the clock mode when the batteries are changed or when the recorder is reset. To switch to the recorder mode press the REC/STOP button or press the PLAY button on the side of the recorder.
Note: When the REC/STOP button is pressed to switch to recorder mode, the recorder starts immediately recording a message.
Step 2: Select a Folder
Select the folder ( A, B, C or D) in which you wish to record your message. In this case folder D was selected.
Step 3: Start Recording
Press down the REC/STOP button to start recording. The current time and date will display briefly, and the message will be stamped with this information. REC will flash while the recorder is recording
Step 4: View the Available Recording Time
Press down the DISP/SET button to view the remaining recording time that is left in this folder. REMAIN will display under the time left.
Step 5: Resume the Normal Recording View
Release the DISP/SET button and the normal recording view will display. The time shown indicates the time that you have been recording the current message.
Step 6: Stop Recording
To stop recording, press down the REC/STOP button.
Index a Message
Step 1: Mark an Index
To place an index while a message is being recorded, press down the MODE/INDEX button. INDEX and the total number of indices that are in the message will briefly display.
Note: A total of 99 indices can be marked in one folder. If you try to place an index and there are already 99 marked, FULL will display.
