EC-238 10K Electronic Organizer w/3-Phone Directories
(650-0764) Calculator Faxback Doc. # 51177

To use the organizer's calculator function, press [+][-][x][/] (CAL). CAL
and 0. appear.

The organizer performs standard arithmetic calculations. Simply press the
numbers and operators in the order they appear in the arithmetic
operation.

For squared calculations, simply press the number you want to square, x,
then =.

For example, to calculate 4^2.

    YOU PRESS YOU SEE
      4 X = 16.

Entry Errors

If you enter an incorrect value, press C/CE (ESC) once. Then enter the
correct value and continue your calculation.

If you press an incorrect operator (+, -, x, /), simply press the correct
key and continue your calculation.

To clear the display for a new calculation, press C/CE twice so 0.
appears, then begin the new calculation.

Error Message

E (error) appears in the upper right corner when:

A calculation result exceeds 12 digits to the left of the decimal point.
This is an overflow error (see "Estimating Calculation Results", below).

You try to divide by 0.

If this happens, press C/CE twice to clear the display.

Estimating Calculation Results

If you perform an operation that results in an overflow error, you can
estimate the correct result (to 12 significant digits) by following these
steps.

1. Count the number of digits displayed to the left of the decimal point.

2. Remove the decimal point.

3. Add as many zeros to the right of the number as there were digits to
the left of the decimal point.

For example, if E 1.23456789012 appears, the estimated answer is
1,234,567,890,120. If the organizer displays E 98.5389345692, the
estimated answer is 98,538,934,569,200.

Memory Calculations

To store a value in memory, first press MR (memory recall) then MC (memory
clear) to clear the memory, then press C/CE to clear all calculations.

To add a value to memory, enter the number or calculation you want to add,
then press M+. The calculator totals the current calculation (if one is
pending) and adds that value to memory.

Note: M appears to show that a value is stored in memory.

To subtract a value from memory, enter the number or calculation you want
to subtract, then press M-. the calculator totals the current calculation
(if one is pending) and subtracts that value from memory.

To recall the value from memory, press MR. The memory value appears.

To clear the contents in memory, press MR then MC so M disappears.

Conversion

The organizer performs three different types of conversions - measurement,
temperature, and currency.

Measurement Conversions

Your organizer can perform four measurement conversions - length, weight,
area, and volume.

For length conversion, choose form M (meter), CM (centimeter), KM
(kilometer), INCH, FEET, YARD, MILE, and KNOT.

For weight conversion, choose from KG (kilogram), G (gram), OZ (ounce), LB
(pound), UKTON (U.K. ton), USTON (U.S. son), UKCWT (U.K. hundredweight),
and USCWT (U.S. hundredweight).

For area conversions, choose from SQ M (square meter), SQ CM (square
centimeter), SQ KM (square kilometer), SQ IN (square inch), SQ FT (square
foot), SQ YARD (square yard), SQ MI) square mile, and ACRE.

For volume conversions, choose from CU M (cubic meter), ML (milliliter),
CU IN (cubic inch), CU FT (cubic feet), CU YD (cubic yard), L (liter),
UKGAL (U.K.gallon), USGAL (U.S. gallon).

To convert between two different units of measurement, follow these steps.

1. Repeatedly press (circled arrows)(CONV) until the measurement
conversion you want to perform briefly appears. Choose from LENGTH,
    WEIGHT, AREA, or VOLUME.

2. To choose the units of measurement, repeatedly press /\ until one unit
you want appears to the left of the arrow and repeatedly press \/
until the other unit you want appears to the right of the arrow.

3. To convert the unit on the right to the unit on the left, press < so
<- points to the unit you are converting to. To convert the unit on
the left to the unit on the right, press > so -> points to the unit
    you are converting to.

4. Enter the digits to be converted.

5. Press ENTER. The measurement conversion result appears.

Temperature Conversions

Follow these steps to convert between Celsius and Fahrenheit temperatures.

1. Repeatedly press (circled arrows) until TEMPERATURE briefly appears,
    followed by DEG C <- DEG F.

2. Be sure the arrow in the middle points to the degrees you are
    converting to.

3. To convert Celsius to Fahrenheit, press > so -> points to the
    Fahrenheit degrees.

4. Enter the Celsius temperature then press ENTER. The equivalent
    Fahrenheit temperature appears.

5. To convert Fahrenheit to Celsius, press < so <- points to the Celsius
    degrees.

6. Enter the Fahrenheit temperature then press ENTER. The equivalent
    Celsius temperature appears.

Note: The organizer cannot convert negative temperatures.

Currency Conversions

from USD (U.S. dollar), DMK (German deutsche mark), FRF (French franc),
STG (U.K. pound sterling), HKD (Hong Kong dollar), CAD (Canadian dollar),
NTD (New Taiwan dollar), and YEN (Japanese yen).

Setting the Exchange Rate

Before you try any currency conversions, you must set the current

follow these steps to set the exchange rate.

1. Repeatedly press (circled arrows) until CURRENCY briefly appears.

2. Repeatedly press /\ until one currency you want appears to the left of
the arrow an repeatedly press \/ until the other currency you want
appears to the right of the arrow.

For this example, select USD for the left side and YEN for the right
    side.

3. Press EDIT. EDIT RATE briefly appears, followed by a currency and the
    number 1.

4. Press /\ or \/ until YEN appears, then press ENTER.

5. Enter the exchange rate. For this example, enter 130 as the current
U.S. dollars to Japanese yen exchange rate.

Note: The exchange rate is permanently stored so you do not need to
set the exchange rate every time you do a currency conversion.
You can update the exchange rate if it changes.

6. Press ENTER to store this exchange rate setting.

7. Press ESC to return to the currency conversion display.

3. To convert the currency on the right to the currency on the left,
press < so <- points to the currency you are converting to. To
convert the currency on the left to the currency on the right, press >

For the current example, convert U.S. dollars to Japanese yen. Be
    sure -> points to YEN.

4. Enter the amount of the currency you are converting from.

For the example, enter 2 (U.S. dollars).

5. Press ENTER to see the equivalent amount in the currency you are
    converting to.

    For the example, 260 appears.
