EC-391 48K Pager ID Executive Planner
(650-0722) Care and Maintenance Faxback Doc. # 48392

Your RadioShack EC-391 48K Pager ID Executive Planner is an example of
superior design and craftsmanship. The following suggestions will help
you care for the EC-391 so you can enjoy it for years.

Keep the EC-391 dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Liquids
might contain minerals that can corrode electronic circuits.

Use and store the EC-391 only in normal temperature environments, and
avoid sudden temperature changes. Temperature extremes can shorten the
life of electronic devices, damage batteries, and distort or melt
  plastic parts.

At very low temperatures, the display's response time might slow down or
the display might fail completely. This is only temporary. The EC-391
works normally again when it returns to normal temperatures.

Handle the EC-391 gently and carefully. Dropping it can damage the
circuit boards and cause the EC-391 to work improperly.

Wipe the EC-391 with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new.
Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents to
  clean the EC-391.

Modifying or tampering with the EC-391's internal components can cause a
malfunction and might invalidate the warranty. If the EC-391 is not
performing as it should, take it to your local RadioShack store for
assistance.

RESETTING THE EC-391

If the EC-391 does not work properly, use a sharp object, such as a
straightened paper clip, to press RESET on the back of the EC-391. The
clock/calendar display appears.

Notes: Pressing RESET clears only the current day, date, and time and the
daily alarm time stored in memory. To delete all data and
re-initialize the EC-391, see "Clearing the Memory" in Faxback
        Doc. # 48386.

After you reset the EC-391, you need to re-enter the current day,
date, and time. See "Viewing/Setting the Clock/Calendar" in
        Faxback Doc. # 48386.

REPLACING BATTERIES

Your EC-391 is powered by one 3-volt CR2430 lithium battery (Cat. No.
23-166) and backed up by one CR1616 battery (Cat. No. 23-167). When the
EC-391's display dims or stops working properly, replace the main battery.
We recommend RadioShack Cat No. 23-166.

CAUTIONS: Never leave a dead, old, or weak battery in the EC-391.
Batteries can leak chemicals and corrode or damage the
           electronic circuits.

To protect the data stored in your EC-391, remove the old
battery and install the new one as quickly as possible. Never
remove both batteries at the same time.

Do not press any button while you replace a battery or you
might lose the information stored in the EC-391's memory.

Notes: Replace the main battery after about every 18 months of operation
        or when the display dims.

Replace the back-up battery after about 5 years of operation.

Use only a fresh replacement battery of the required size and
        type.

After replacing the main battery, reset the time, date, and daily
alarm. All other data is stored.

WARNINGS: Always dispose of the old battery promptly and properly.

Do not allow children to play with the battery. It can be
           harmful or fatal if swallowed.

           Never burn a battery.

Follow these steps to replace the main battery.

1. Press OFF to turn off the EC-391.

2. Turn the EC-391 over and slide out the battery container.

3. Remove the old battery and install the new one with the positive (+)
    side facing up.

4. Replace the battery container.

Follow these steps to replace the backup battery.

1. Press OFF to turn off the EC-391.

2. Remove the three small, black stickers on the back of the EC-391.

Note: Use care when removing the stickers, as you must reattach them.

3. Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove the three screws
(that were covered by the small, black stickers) holding the back of
the EC-391. Then remove the back.

4. Remove the old battery. Then slide the fresh battery under the
retaining strips with the positive (+) side facing up.

5. Replace the back and the screws and reattach the black stickers.
