STORING FILES
MEMORY CAPACITY
Each letter, number, space, or other character you store uses an average
of 1.5 units of memory. Your EC-391 can store up to 48,960 units of
information in its memory.
To display the remaining memory, press (Rolodex symbol) [NAME] or
(Notepad symbol) [SCHED]. The amount of available memory appears on the
display.
"FULL" appears on the display if there is not enough memory to store the
new record. You can delete telephone files or schedule reminders to free
additional memory (see "Deleting Telephone Files" below or "Deleting
Schedule Reminders" in Faxback Doc. # 48389).
DATA ENTRY TIPS
Press [SPACE] to enter a space.
Press [ERASE] to erase the last character entered.
Press (Clock symbol) [TIME] at any time to clear the display and return
to the time and date.
USING THE TELEPHONE DIRECTORY
You can enter a person's name or company name and 2 telephone numbers (for
example, 1 telephone number and 1 fax number) into each telephone
directory file. The name can be up to 50 characters, and the numbers can
be up to 12 digits each, including spaces.
ENTERING TELEPHONE FILES
1. Press (Rolodex symbol) [NAME]. "CONTACTS?" and the remaining memory
appears on the display.
2. Press [ENTER]. The cursor and the C in CONTACTS? alternately flash on
the display.
3. Enter the person's or company's name.
Note: If you enter more than 11 characters, [<] appears at the right
of the display and the display scrolls to the left as you enter
more characters.
4. Press [ENTER]. "#1" appears on the left of the display.
5. Use the number keys to enter the first telephone number (up to 12
digits).
Notes: Press [-] (minus sign) to enter a dash.
You can leave the #1 telephone number blank and enter a number on the
#2 line.
6. Press [ENTER] again. "#2" appears on the left of the display.
Note: If you do not want to store a second telephone number, press
[ENTER] when the cursor appears on the #2 line.
7. Use the number keys to enter the second telephone number.
8. Press [ENTER] to store the file. "WAIT" appears briefly on the
display.
9. Repeat Steps 2-8 to store more telephone directory files.
RECALLING TELEPHONE FILES
The telephone files are stored in alphanumeric order by name. You can
recall telephone files by sequential, index, or Pager ID recall.
Sequential Recall
1. Press (Rolodex symbol) [NAME]. "CONTACTS?" and the remaining memory
appear on the display.
2. Press [\/]. The first telephone file appears.
Notes: When [>] appears to the right of a file, repeatedly press (or
press and hold) [>] to scroll the display to see the remaining
characters.
To recall other telephone files, repeatedly press [\/] to
scroll forward or [/\] to scroll backward.
Index Recall
1. Press (Rolodex symbol) [NAME]. "CONTACTS?" and the remaining memory
appear on the display.
2. Enter the first few characters (up to 50) of the person's or company's
name you want to find.
3. Press [ENTER]. The first matching file appears.
Notes: If no file starts with the characters you entered, "NOT FOUND"
appears.
To recall other files, repeat Steps 2 and 3, or press [\/] to
scroll forward or [/\] to scroll backward.
Pager ID Recall
1. Press (Rolodex symbol) NAME until "TEL. NO.?" appears on the display.
2. Enter the last few digits (up to 12) of the phone/fax number you want
to find.
3. Press [ENTER]. "WAIT" appears briefly, then the first matching file
appears.
Notes: To recall other matching files, press [\/].
If no file ends with the digits you entered, "NOT FOUND"
appears on the display.
To recall other files, repeat Steps 2 and 3 when "TEL. NO.?"
appears, or repeat Steps 1-3 when a file appears on the
display.
EDITING TELEPHONE FILES
1. Recall the file you want to edit.
2. Press [ERASE]. The cursor and the first character in the file
alternately flash on the display.
3. Repeatedly press [>] until the flashing cursor appears under the
characters or digits you want to edit or erase.
Press [ENTER] to move the flashing cursor down to the first or second
telephone line.
4. Press [ERASE] to erase an incorrect character, then enter the correct
character or press [SPACE] to add a space.
5. When you finish editing, press [ENTER] again until "CONTACTS?" appears
on the display. The edited file is stored.
DELETING TELEPHONE FILES
1. Recall the file you want to delete.
2. Press and hold down [ERASE] until "CONTACTS?" and the remaining memory
appear on the display. The file is deleted.
