IMPORTANT: Your EC-391 is packaged with a plastic covering over the
battery to insure the battery is fresh when you get it.
Remove the plastic covering by pulling it out slowly.
A LOOK AT THE KEYBOARD
The EC-391's main operation keys are listed below with their functions.
(Notepad symbol) The scheduler is used to keep track of meetings,
[SCHED] appointments, and special events.
(Rolodex symbol) The telephone directory is used for storing names and
[NAME] telephone numbers.
(Alarm symbol) The daily alarm sounds each day at a preselected
[ALARM] time.
[/\] The up and down arrow keys are used to scroll through
[\/] the telephone directory and scheduler files, file-by
file.
[<] The left and right arrow keys are used to scroll the
[>] first line of a telephone directory or scheduler
file. They are also used to move the flashing cursor
when entering or editing data.
(Calculator symbol)
[CALC] Full-Function calculator with 12-digit display.
[OFF] Turns off the EC-391.
(Clock symbol)
[TIME] Press to see the current day, date, and time.
[1] - [9], and Calculator function keys. The minus key also
math symbols functions as a hyphen when entering telephone
directory and scheduler files.

(<--|) Press to store information in the telephone
directory, scheduler, alarm, and time modes, or to
[ENTER] move to the next line during data entry.
[SPACE] Press to insert a space between characters when
entering or editing data.
[ERASE] Quickly press and release to delete one character at
a time, or press and hold for 2 seconds to delete an
entire telephone directory or scheduler file.
CLEARING THE MEMORY
Before you operate the EC-391 for the first time, reset it to clear any
files that might already be stored in its memory.
WARNING!: Clear the executive planner's memory only when you want to
delete all data and re-initialize the EC-391. Keep a copy of
all information stored in your executive planner in case it is
lost, stolen, or physically damaged. It is advisable to avoid
X-ray and magnetic fields, such as airport security systems.
This can cause scrambling or loss of the planner's memory.
1. While you press and hold [ENTER], press RESET on the back of
the planner with a thin, pointed object, such as a straightened paper
clip.
2. Continue to hold down [ENTER], but release RESET. The display appears
with two rows of "8's" with the keyboard symbols on each end of the
display.
Then the clock/calendar display appears.

3. Release [ENTER].
Before entering any information, press (Rolodex symbol) [NAME] or
(Notepad symbol) [SCHED] to check the amount of available memory. The
display should show 48960. If a lower number appears, repeat Steps 1-3 to
clear the memory again.
VIEWING/SETTING THE CLOCK/CALENDAR
To view the clock/calendar display, simply press (Clock symbol) [TIME].
Follow these steps to set the clock/calendar.
Note: If you make a mistake while entering information, use the [<] and
[>] keys to move through the display to correct the information.
1. Press and hold down [ENTER] until the first month digit flashes on the
display.
2. Use the number keys to enter the month, date, year, the current hour,
and the minute.
Note: Precede single-digit entries with a zero.
3. Press [A] to set the clock to AM or [P] to set the clock to PM.
"A" or "P" appears on the display.
4. Repeatedly press (or press and hold) [/\] or [\/] to set the day of
the week.
5. If the information is correct, press [ENTER] to store the date/time
you set.
If the information is not correct, use the [<] and [>] keys to move
through the display to correct an entry.
Notes: The seconds begin counting from 0 after you press [ENTER].
If the information you enter is invalid (for example, you enter 15
for the month), the previous date or time reappears. Repeat Steps
2-5 to enter the correct information.
