To enjoy your RadioShack EC-289 3K Electronic Organizer with Executive
Paper Planner by Day Runner for a long time:

Keep the EC-289 dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately.

Use and store the EC-289 only in normal temperature environments.

Note: At very low temperatures, the display's response time might slow
down or it might fail completely. This is only temporary. Your
EC-289 returns to normal when the temperature returns to the
         normal operating range.

Handle the EC-289 gently and carefully. Don't drop it.

Keep the EC-289 away from dust and dirt.

Wipe the EC-289 with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new.

Modifying or tampering with your EC-289's internal components can cause a
malfunction and might invalidate the organizer's warranty. If your EC-289
is not performing as it should, take it to your local RadioShack store for
assistance.

REPLACING THE BATTERIES

Your EC-289 is powered by one 3-volt CR-2016 lithium battery (RadioShack
Cat. No. 23-160), and is backed up by one 3-volt CR-1616 lithium battery
(Cat. No. 23-167).

When the EC-289's display dims, locks up, or stops working properly,
replace the supplied main battery. Replace the supplied backup battery
after about every 1-1/2 years of operation.

WARNINGS: Keep batteries out of reach of children. Swallowing a lithium
           battery can be fatal.

Always dispose of an old battery promptly and properly. Do not
           burn or bury it.

CAUTIONS: Always use a fresh battery of the required size and type.

To avoid losing the information stored in your EC-289, do not
remove both batteries at the same time, and do not press any
buttons while you replace a battery.

Replacing the Main Battery

1. Slide the ribbed edge of the battery holder in the direction of the
arrow to remove the holder from the battery compartment.

2. Remove the old battery and insert the new one with the positive (+)
    side facing up.

CAUTION: If the battery is installed upside-down, the EC-289 will not
turn on and everything stored in memory is lost.

3. Slide the battery holder back into the compartment and snap it into
    place.

Replacing the Backup Battery

1. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the 6 screws from the upper third
    of the back cover.

Note: Since the screws are very small, put them in a safe place so
           you do not lose them.

2. Temporarily remove the main battery holder while you get the back
    cover off the organizer.

3. Starting at the corner near the main battery compartment, slide your
fingertips under the edge of the back cover to loosen it from the
adhesive strips holding it in place.

4. Carefully pull away the upper portion of the back cover so you can see
    the backup battery.

CAUTION: Do not crease the thin plastic in the back cover.

5. Replace the main battery holder. Be sure the battery is pressed
firmly into place so stored information is not lost when you remove
    the backup battery.

6. Use a screwdriver to gently push the backup battery out of the open
side of its holder, then lift it out of the EC-289.

7. Slide the new battery with its positive (+) side facing up into the
    battery holder.

8. Lower the back cover and press it against the adhesive strips around
the edges of the EC-289, then reinsert and tighten the 6 screws.
