CALCULATOR

To use your EC-289's calculator feature, press [CALCULATOR C/CE].
CALC appears.

The EC-289 performs standard arithmetic calculations. Simply press the
numbers and operators in the order they appear in the arithmetic
operation.

For squared calculations, simply press the number you want to square, [x],
then [SPACE].

For example, to calculate 4^2:

You Press You See

[4] [x] [=] 16.

ENTRY ERRORS

If you enter an incorrect value, press [CALCULATOR C/CE] once. Then enter
the correct value and continue your calculation.

If you press an incorrect operator (+, -, x, /), simply press the correct
key and continue your calculation.

To clear the display for a new calculation, press [CALCULATOR C/CE] twice
so 0. appears, then begin the new calculation.

ERROR MESSAGE

E appears to the left of the numbers when:

A calculation result exceeds 10 digits to the left of the decimal
point. This is an overflow error (see "Estimating Calculation
    Results").

You try to divide by 0.

If this happens, press [CALCULATOR C/CE] twice to clear the display.

Estimating Calculation Results

If you perform an operation that results in an overflow error, you can
estimate the correct result (to 10 significant digits) by following these
steps.

1. Count the number of digits displayed to the left of the decimal point.

2. Remove the decimal point.

3. Add as many zeros to the right of the number as there were digits to
the left of the decimal point.

For example, if E 1.234567891 appears, the estimated answer is
12,35,678,910. If the EC-289 displays E 98.53893456, the estimated answer
is 985,389,345,600.
