REMOVING THE BATTERY INSULATION SLIPS

Your EC-289 comes with two insulation slips to preserve battery power
during shipping.  Before you can use your EC-289, you must remove the
insulation slips.

Each insulation slip has a tab that extends outside the back cover.  To
remove the slips, firmly grasp each tab and pull it out.

Note:  If you are unable to easily slide a slip out of the back cover, or
       if you are not sure the entire slip was removed, you can open the
       back cover to remove the slips.  see "Replacing the Batteries" in
       Faxback Doc. # 47714 for instructions on removing the cover.

INITIALIZING THE EC-289

You should initialize your EC-289 before you use it for the first time.

CAUTION:  Initializing the EC-289 deletes all stored information!

Use a straightened paper clip to press the reset switch inside the reset
hole on the right side of the EC-289.

The default day, time, and date appear, and the EC-289 is ready for use.

Note:  If your EC-289 does not work properly, try replacing the main
       battery (see "Replacing the Main Battery" in Faxback Doc. # 47714)
       before you resort to initializing the organizer.

If your EC-289 is exposed to a strong static electrical charge, and the
display locks up or will not turn on, remove both the main battery and the
backup battery at the same time, then reinstall them (see "Replacing the
Batteries" in Faxback Doc. # 47714).

CAUTION:  Removing both batteries at the same time deletes all stored
          information!
